Biting

My DD is coming up to nine months and has always been quite full on when breast feeding. She's been teething for a while but has a new one in the middle at the bottom and I've never known pain like it. She finds it funny too.
I've been saying no firmly and poking her in the cheek and the last few times I've put her on the floor and she cries. I feel bad doing that she seems too young to be punished but I'm so sore and I urgently need her to make the connection that biting isn't a good idea. I'm using multi mam compresses and I've stopped feeding on demand so I'm feeding when she's due a nap instead as it's the most reliable way to get her to sleep.
I was planning on going straight to cows milk in cups when she's one - she does drink water from a cup at the moment but I'm not sure if I'm confident I could get her to drink the right amount of formula if I switch to that for three months.
Any advice or experience?

I did what you're doing. I said no, took DS2 off and put him down for a bit. He did it a few times while his first teeth were coming through but I'm still feeding him at 14 months. If I couldn't take him off straight away I pulled him into my boob, that makes it harder for them to bite, I read that on here.

I shouted out in pain (involuntary) but it did the trick, I then acted out the shocked shout with subsequent babies when it happened. Sounds a bit mean, as they did look shocked and there were a few tears but I might not have continued bf otherwise.

Thank you for replying, how long did it take for them to get the message? She didn't bite in the night but has a couple of times this morning. Pulling her in didn't stop her so I stuck my finger in her mouth instead. She has teethers and gel.

Oh yes I did that too, popped my finger in to get him off. He only seemed to do it while his teeth were coming through, can't really remember when it stopped but he hasn't done it for a while now, so painful

My DD did this around the same age. Every bed time feed without fail for about 3 weeks. Then one day she just stopped and hasn't done it since. I would take her off which upset her and I don't know whether that necessarily helped or she just grew out of it. Don't feel bad about upsetting your DD - I'm not sure what else you can do at such a young age to get the message across

To reassure you on the not getting enough formula for 3 months bit, DD2 started refusing all formula at just over 5 months, just one day stopped drinking it

The HV just advised lots of dairy in food so made lots of porridge, weetabix , custards, cheese sauces, yoghurt, cheese etc etc. She then started drinking cows milk fine from 11 months.

So long as your baby gets plenty of dairy as well as formula it'll be fine

DD1 was breastfed and a biter, did it off and on until weaned at 14 months, it's horrible you have my sympathies!

Thank you for all your advice, she does seem to be getting the message now which is a relief! ! I'm getting some ready made as back up just in case but she does get dairy too and also she tucks into her greens which has calcium too.
