Too early to drop pm bottle?

DS is 9 months and has been cutting down on his bedtime bottle to such an extent, that in the end he was only taking about 2oz. He eats well so I thought I'd try putting his 2.30pm milk in a cup. I'd been meaning to do this anyway at 9 months and thought he'd drink less, so therefore drink more at bedtime.

Didn't really work. He drank slowly from the cup, but did drink about 2/3 oz, then at bedtime only 3 oz again. Sooo.. I cut out his 2.30 bottle on Sunday, and gave him water instead. For the last two nights he has drunk all 7oz of his bedtime bottle!!

Now I feel guilty. Am I cutting out his milk too early? He still has 7oz in the morning, so with milk in cereal, and yoghurts etc. I think this still totals about 20oz?

Am I pushing him too fast?

BR

No, you seem to be responding to his signals
As long as he's getting his 20oz I'm sure he will be fine. You could always try the occasional afternoon cup of milk to see if it still puts him off the evening bottle, if you're worried - things do change over time after all.

Sounds fine to me. ds dropped his daytime bottles between 9 and 12 months and dd reduced her afternoon and evening feeds by a year. She then later went on to drink more milk as a toddler than as a baby!
