Hi everyone, Has anyone been prescribed fluconazole while breadtfeeding a newborn. I have suspected thrush (and think it is in my ducts as I can feel it in my back when I breastfeed), with horrible split nipples, and baby has it in his mouth too. We've been using cream and gel since Wednesday but it hasn't gone away. I have some fluconazole and have taken the initial 400mg dose, but am not sure whether to take it daily as there seem to be some concerns about babies under 6 weeks and it accumulating in them Am worried I won't clear it without systemic treatment if it is already in my ducts though.. Doctors are being useless and Googling for advice themselves!

Could suggest contacting Bfn drugs in breast milk helpline or a personal message to their Facebook page and the pharmacist to get back to you? Also see

Are you treating baby with nystatin? You both need to be treated otherwise keep giving it back to each other

I took it for a fortnight. Cleared up the thrush. Tried everything beforehand. La leche league advice sheet also states a long course may be required. No adverse effects noticed...
