DD2 [3wks] wants more formula but then throws it all up again....

DD2 seems to have eyes bigger than her belly. IT isnt reflux and I do feed her whenever she seems to be crying for food but if I only give her 3ozs she is fine. Anything over 3ozs even by 1/4 oz and she throws it all back up. So what do I do??? I wind her throughout feeds, use dr browns bottles for colic and was told by mw and hv not to let her over eat..but I feel like I am starving her. DD1 had bad reflux but didnt start till she was 3/4wks old. With DD2 it doesnt seem to be the same which is why I say it isnt reflux.

what about trying her with cooled boiled water if she wants something after the 3oz? That was the advice HV gave me to try and space S's feeds. Are you sure it's absolutely all that comes back up, a few tablespoons of curdled milk can be pretty gross and make a big mess. Is she never sick when she only has 3 oz?

mts never sick on just 3ozs only if she goes over. If she goes over then she will be sick a few times to the extent of her and me/whoever is holding her being drenched. I know with reflux it is to feed little and often so have been giving her the 3ozs every 3 hrs.

is she wanting more milk for comfort and so over eating? Have you tried a dummy?
dd was the same, would feed until she was sick in the evenings before finally dropping off to sleep.

she has a dummy which settles her sometimes. She has just taken 1/4 oz water and thrown up.Thing is it has been hour since her last feed. She seems to gag a lot aswell which she has done since birth and was told it was just birth mucus but that doesnt seem to have changed.

hi biglips, screaming carried on until gone 1am when she had a feed then threw it up again. HV has been out this morning and has said she has only put 1lb on since being born which in 4wks is not too good. Have made an appointment for gp on friday for her as hv thinks she has reflux like dd1 mainly due to the spectacular projectile vomitting she did while here..lol

Nemo - I don't want to concern you unnecessarily but felt that I should mention this to you - did the HV say anything about pyloric stenosis? I am sure that your DD doesn't have this but one of the symptoms is projectile vomiting.

My DS had it and was sick pretty much after every feed - sometimes immediately after other times it would be 1- hours after the feed - but pretty much the whole feed would come back every time.

At one point the doctor thought it was gastroentritis so told us to feed him little and often so he only threw up every third feed then (but it was the entire contents of his stomach) - I assume until his stomach got full and triggered the vomiting.

As I said, really don't want to worry you but it might be worth getting it checked out although I am sure the first thing the doctor will ask is whether it is projectile or not (we kept being asked that but DS's wasn't that projectile so we kept saying no - as it turned out, they meant forceful aswell which DS's was - came gushing out just didn't fly very far!- TMI!!)

That should be 1-2 hours after the feed!

ceebee hv never mentioned that, I think with DD1 having a history of bad reflux then she has assumed dd2 also has it. I know what will happen is gp will say he cant help so go to a+e who will tell us to get dd2 enfamil ar while waiting for appointment with gastro consultant.

We ended up at A&E as the doctor prescribed us Gaviscon - which just turned his puke into porridge!!

If you do end up at A&E, at least things will get moving then.

I am sure it isn't pyloric stenosis as apparently it is most common in first-born boys - neither of which your DD2 is

hope it goes ok - keep us informed.
