4 week old and has started bringing milk up after her bottle can this be reflux?

I'm a first time nun and My LO is 4 weeks and 5 days. About 4 days ago she started vomiting after her feeds. Sometimes it's a lot and sometimes it's just spit up. She doesn't really cry or seem In pain so I'm not sure if it's reflux or not. I'm now panicking she's going to throw up in her sleep and choke as she is so quiet when it happens! it can sometimes be an hour afterwards. The strange thing is her 3am feed (which I do as the OH works) she hasn't yet brought it up as far as I can tell. After each feed I sit her upright for 30 mins too! Any help would be great!

Same thing happens to me at times. It's pretty normal to spit up as they don't have strong stomach valves. If it isn't causing discomfort I wouldn't worry about it.
Your baby shouldn't choke in their sleep, especially if you put them on their back to sleep as they just swallow it back down.

Maybe happens less at night as the feeding is more relaxed and feed more slowly so less air gets swallowed with the milk

Thank you for replying Petrova. Haha nun oops! that will teach me to read again before I post. I'm blaming autocorrect.

How much do they class as spit up? Sometimes there's a lot. Not a whole bottle or anything though. That link is very useful thank you.

I'm such a worrier anyway that I panic over most things in case something happens, I had a missed miscarriage last year so she's even more precious to us. Yeah I did think maybe it's because she's more relaxed. We are going to the GP tomorrow anyway so maybe I'll ask then.

I have the same worries, my little girl is 13 weeks and takes 7oz bottles. She started this week not finishing her bottles. She normally would spit up if not winded properly and I haven't been overly concerned about that so far as she never seemed in any pain.
But when she stopped finishing her bottles it was out of character because she is a hungry baby! Her nappies are always the explode out of the side of the nappy kind too.
The HV recommended carabel to thicken the milk to stay in her tummy, and help with her nappies but so far I can't see any odds being made.
This is number two so I'm supposed to know what I'm doing lol but dd2 is so different from dd1 that I feel like a first time mum!

My experience with my friends kids, each one is different. Even if the standard practices are the same, they tend to be totally different in their feeding. One had one who was a perfect baby to one who had awful colic.

Maybe pop to the GP and see what they recommend. As above I feel the HV tend to just give general advice and not really tailor it to yours or your baby's needs.

Does she throw up a lot after her feed or is it still just spit up?

It depends, could be a mouthful or a bit more. Only brought up the whole bottle projectile/exorcist style once or twice! Yeah I didn't really feel like the HV offered anything of substance.

Totally normal for babies to have reflux. My friend is a GP and said as long as they are happy and growing, no cause for concern. Should improve by the time they can sit up...would make my laundry slightly easier!

She is a thriving baby and normally very pleasant - lots of smiles, kicks and cooing. I'm not sold on the carabel, I think she would be happier without it

VickyL24 how are you getting on now? I had a chat to my SIL over the weekend, she has experienced reflux with her little girl. Apparently it's only the silent reflux that will cause them to cry. If they bring up regularly after there bottles it could be a regular reflux.
My DD was out of sorts last week and I'm putting it down to the injections & trying the carabel again. So far minimal reflux and better nappies. I'm making a doctors appointment for after the holidays.

thenoisytimetravelstudent DD is better thank you. That's interesting about silent reflux only causing them to cry.

We have been feeding her less just more intervals. This seems to have worked and she only has slight spit ups and the occasional larger sickness. I am also getting her weighed on Friday to see if she has gained from last week. If not we will be going to the doctors next week. To find out what to do.
