How much formula for 5mth old?

Ds is breastfed all day then has 1 feed of formula with DH before bed. being a mean old skinflint I intended to just keep using the 2 newborn bottles rather than buy bigger ones, so he gets about 8oz at this feed from the 2 bottles. But dh says he guzzsles them in seconds and appears to want more. How much would you expect a 5mth old to drink at this last feed of the day? he carries on having bf during the night, usually once sometimes twice before breakfast at 5am. I've offered solids but he shows no enthusiasm yet. TIA

we were in exactly the same situation. after the bedtime bottle i would still have to bf, although her tummy was about to burst with milk. we introduced 1 small spoon feed of baby rice and all was fine.
she is now 7 mths and still never has more than 7oz at one time.

i guess all babies are different and have differeny appetites. there is no "right amount"

My 3mth old is taking 25-32 ounces a day.He weighs 15 1b and is gaining half a 1b a wk.I know he is putting on the correct amount of weight but is he taking what he should be as iv read that he should now be taking 37 ounces a day (according to Gina Ford). He just cant seem to consume anymore. He isnt getting hungry between feeds.

Ds2 has just turned 6 months and he has four nine ounce bottles a day. Breakfast, dinner, tea and supper. With breakfast he has a bowl of cereal, dinner a main course and desert and the same at tea. At supper he just has his milk. His weight gain is bang on the 50th centile and he sleeps from 7.30pm until 7.30 am most nights and I think the last time I fed him during the night was when he was about 3 month old. I started to introduce solids at 3 months and he's thriving.

But it's each to their own. I do find that if ds2 has more than nine ounces at supper he feels bloated and full of wind so doesn't go to sleep well.

thanx for that flip. How did u get such a great routine @ 3months? I Im not doing all that well right now.My health visitor is rubbish.I read books but there is so much & 2 much diff advice. He goes down @ 7 some nights(!)then I wake him @ 10.30 4 a feed then he goes straight back down til between 4-5.30.He does not know how to sleep in the day.I always have somewhere to go in the day so cant stick to a strict routine.Something always goes wrong every time I try to start a routine. He keeps playing with the teat during feeding so ends up not taking a full feed so is then hungry 2 hrs later.Oh Oh Oh sorry feeling like a very unsuccessful mum @ mo.Its gettin to me.Sorry again.
