Hi my baby is 11 weeks old and I have just stopped breast feeding and moved to formula ( she has been combo feeding since birth ) and she is still only going for 2 hours between feeds apart from the first stretch at around ten which is 4 hours? I thought that formula fed babies were supposed to sleep for longer? I think the problem we have is she will only take a small amount of feed at a time 70-100 ml.. Anyone got any suggestions? It is taking us an hour to feed her each time to try and get more milk into her so by the time she is down she wakes in an hour!

It's a myth that formula fed babies go longer at night, as breast milk is fattier at night they are hard wired to wake more at night.
At least that's what my very clever friend told me!

Are you sure she's waking out of hunger? If she's not taking very much maybe she's not hungry?

Are you burbing her? Trapped wind could be why she isn't drinking much and then waking for more food.
If she is being sick it could be reflux.

If she use to drink bottles faster and is now drinking slowly and falling asleep mid feed try moving up a teat size.

Recent research has shown the link between formula feeding and longer sleeping to be a myth. Sorry!

Have you tried a slightly faster flowing tear? Maybe a different type of bottle?

What teats are you using? I would say if your using size 1 then baby is getting tired while feeding so can't finish the bottle. So getting hungrier quicker.

How many ounces are you making?

I would change to variflow teats depending what bottles you use.

The myth with formula fed babies and sleep probably comes from fuller babies sleep longer maybe?

It's a myth ff babies sleep longer. Both my babies were combo fed. Totally different feeding and sleeping patterns. At 11 weeks many babies feed often and 4 hours is probably the maximum. It's worth checking the bottle teats as pp said, but otherwise she will she increase quantity in her own time.

Yup, complete myth that they go for longer. At 11 weeks their stomachs are still tiny.

Was going to suggest check the teat flow.
Eldest DS was 6 weeks prem and really struggled with my avent bottles so I had to swap to bottles with a latex teat.
