Taking vitamins whilst breastfeeding?

Hello all,

I've wondered about this on and off this last week and just wanted to get others' opinions on taking vitamins, specifically pregnacare whilst breastfeeding. I took Pregnacare throughout my pregnancy; religiously for the first 12 weeks and then when I remembered for the remainder (naps and general forgetfulness got in the way!).

My little girl is 3 weeks old and I've been EBF her. We've had a little bit of trouble with her regaining her birth weight and midwife suggested topping up after feeds with formula. Long story short: she hated it, but feeds like a goodun every 2/3 hours!

Will taking a vitamin, like Pregnacare Breastfeeding, help at all with her weight gain? I eat a balanced diet and am sure to include fruits and veg every day to ensure she gets lots of nutritional goodness from me. Will buying and subsequently taking Pregnacare Breastfeeding tablets just be doing the same thing, just on a slightly more expensive level? And would introducing such a change have an affect on my little girl's feeding?

No one told me what a minefield of questions I'd run into when starting breastfeeding!

Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance Smile x

It won't make a difference. You can take them to make you feel better if you're lacking in something but it won't change your milk. :)

No. They will have zero impact on either her weight gain or the quality of your milk.

Bertie's right. Your diet won't make any difference to your milk or your baby's weight gain.

There are several ways to help your dd gain weight - shame the midwife could only think of formula :(

Basic way to get more weight on a baby is to ensure she gets more breastmilk. This means feeding more often, offering at least both breasts at every feed....and that should do it. There are other steps after this, but for most mothers and babies, simply feeding more often, from both breasts, is all you need.

Is her weight gain fine now?Have you stopped the formula?
