If I Switch To Formula, Should I Be Giving It In A Cup? (9 months)

Thats it really. We are doing abit of mixed feeding now, mainly due to biting (4 teeth now!) and abit due to the fact I can have a rest BUT, should I be giving it in a cup? He drinks water brilliant from an open cup, and still has the breast most feeds for comfort... so should I be giving the formula in a cup? At mealtimes?

Many Thanks xxx

I found that my ds dramatically reduced his milk intake once I started offering it in a cup. The problem with this is that they still need formula at this age (I think 1-2 pints).

What I ended up doing is offering bottles morning and evening and a cup during the day.

The result of this is that he now only drinks milk morning and evening. But he is 15 months now so I don't care any more.

A cup with a lid maybe, but I wouldn't go for an open cup yet, not for milk anyway. For one thing, it's smellier if it is spilt and not quite cleaned up and, also, you'll want to make sure that ds is getting enough milk.

The biting is just a phase though so fingers crossed it will pass soon!

I would give it in a bottle personally

dd3 loves her bottle (she is not breast fed anymore though)

maybe if you are worried about nipple confusion? some people say a cup is better. dd3 will drink water and plain cows milk (naughty enid) from a cup (8 months)

He drinks well from an open cup, slurps it up, and the spillage is alot less now...He is still having at least 5 feeds 7-7 on the breast, + at least 3 or 4 breastfeeds during the day...

Not worried about nipple confusion, hes very good like that, just his teeth etc. I thought id read/heard giving a cup was better?

try a cup then

but I would have thought bottle is quicker and easier (and more comforting)

I think the problem for the teeth (called bottle mouth) only exists if you offer bottle last thing before bed and don't brush teeth afterwards... although I don't see how this is not the case with breast feeding or cup.

I say... try it and see what works for you
