Infant feeding

Am I giving too much food?

Hi my baby is 6.5 months, been on solids for about 5 weeks.

The last 3 days he has been eating a lot! I make his food from scratch - pureed meat, potatoes and veg for lunch and dinner. Porridge for breakfast mixed with pureed pear. Also has a fruit snack in afternoon (mango or apricots)

My question is that for lunch and dinner he has eaten about 4-5 large tablespoons of food each time.

He is breastfed also and I have been feeding him as normal - approx every 2 hours during the day and 1 dream feed at night.

He is a small baby and is in 2nd centile although I feel he may have gone through a growth spurt in the last few weeks

If he is over 6m, just forget about puree and give him what you eat in addition to bf.

That's not too much tbh. DC were on 3 meals a day (normal food) and snacks at 7m. I would give him normal food too.

Well it is what we eat just blended down. Do you think the quantity is too much

Thanks Adele! Is it possible to over feed or would be just stop eating when he has enough?

My dd is almost 7 months and has taken to weaning like a duck to water. She's having 3 large meals a day, she ate a whole weetabix this morning! Sadly she's almost stopped bf during the day- it's like pulling teeth getting her to feed. HV said it's fine as long as she has plenty of yogurt/cheese etc but as she has always had a ff in the evening I'm afraid that it will mean the end of bf for us Sad.

She'll just stop eating when she's had enough.

Babies are unlike adults in that they eat until they get full and then stop. They won't just eat everything in front of them like an adult might.

If he is eating it and not being sick and is happy then it sounds fine. Lucky you, I'm still trying to get my 8 month old to finish his second meal goodness knows how I'm going to fit in a third meal

Nickyed, I am in a similar situation with my boy. He just doesn't want to bf in the day now. Not even on morning wake up. He is ff in the evening and has gone from 8oz, to barely 4, and it is hard work getting him to take that. Sorry to hijack thread just was getting really worried about it and reassuring to see that someone els is in the same situation. However he has been poorly so that doesn't help. I am also sad about assaying goodbye to bf.

OP I think my DS(6.5mo) takes a little less than that so I am glad you put this thread out as perhaps I should be offering more to make up for dropped feeds and as advised ensure a lot of dairy in his diet.
