Are double pumps worth the money?

I've got a medela swing just now and it's fine, but I'm struggling to fit in 30-40mins every few hours to pump. Obviously a double pump would cut the time down but they're so expensive. I've got money aside for it but just can't decide if it's worth shelling out for - was looking at the swing maxi double and the cheapest I can see it for is £170. Has anyone used it, having used a single, and found a massive improvement in supply?

I hired a Madela double pump & loved it. Saved time & just more effective. Although I did feel like a cow at milking time!

Gi have a spectra S1 and it's fantastic. Was £125 from Amazon. The bottles with it are cheap and nasty though, however, advent bottles fit, so I replaced the spectra 5oz bottles for avent 9oz bottles.

I gained so much time, it was worth it for me. DC never managed to latch properly, so I've exclusively expressed for 4 months.

I have a Lansinoh double electric and it's very good. With some pumps (the Lansinoh is one) the entire "milk" part can be sterilised so you can buy them second hand cheaply. There are usually some on e bay, they often haven't even been used as women buy them and the bf doesn't work out.

Thanks so much for the replies, seems they are worth it then! I'm keen to stick to the medela because I know it works for me and I've already got the bottles/teats etc. Although I did like the look of the Spectra...

I found that it's not just the time saved by doing two boobs at once but I get a let down in the boob not being used IYSWIM so I get more milk with a double too.

Get in touch with your local mlu they do occasionally hire them out so you can try before you buy

I have the medela freestyle double pump and it is fab, really quick and faff free. Tried the ardo calypso before that which was horrendous, so I sent it back.

I hired a hospital grade medela which was great....I now have an Ameda lactaline dual pump (£90 a few weeks ago in Boots) which I find to be just as good...better in fact if you consider that it's portable

I have the Medela swing maxi and think it's great. Especially if you're away from your baby. I got it on Amazon.de for significantly less than the price on Amazon.co.uk but I'm in Ireland so the euro works. Definitely Worth checking.
