Infant feeding

How can I increase my milk supply?

DS is nearly 5 months and in the past week he's started waking again in the night and taking a massive feed, and being very unsettled and demanding in the evenings, which is a bit of a shock. I get the impression he's ready for weaning, but I wanted to wait at least another couple of weeks. I'm beginning to feel run down and just so tired...

Is there anything I can eat/drink/take to boost my supply? I'm trying to drink lots of water, but is there anything else?

Just feeding lots I think - a few days of feeding frequently should boost the milk supply - he's probably having a growth spurt. Things should calm down again soon - well done so far!

Ditto really. It will probably pass in a day or so. Well done!

A lovely bar of chocolate can only help!

Fenugreek has been known to help some people, sadly I wasn't one of them but really just feed feed feed, rest when you can and make sure you are eating and drinking water.

Oh, and porridge and flapjacks are definitely your friends. This definitely worked for me..

Best of luck!

Oh yes I'm eating tons of chocolate but only because I'm greedy! We have also both got stinking colds which might be making the situation worse.

Google came up with a herb called Fenugreek - anyone tried it?

crace - we crossed! Flapjack and porridge, now there's an idea! I think I might just go and make myself a bowl of porridge right now.

I'm eating heaps just to stay at my normal weight, he's a very greedy boy it seems!

I think it's highly likely the cold's to blame. ds (3 months) has a nasty one and has been doing the same. annoying isn't it?

still, I have 2 more children and in some ways it's nice to get some time to myself with ds2.

Yes he seems to know that "feed a cold, starve a fever" thing . It's a vicious cold, he's been really stuffed up and miserable at night and so have I! The difference being that he's still all smiley during the day - when he's not feeding - and I most definitely am NOT!

I have no idea why the oat thing works, but it worked for a friend of mine that I recommended it to. Plus it's filling and full of long releasing energy so maybe that's why - I still have a bowl of porridge every day. I love it, it's the ultimate comfort food.

Hope it works for you! I've been known to eat it for tea some days too when supply is low..
