Infant feeding

7 months - night-time feeding affecting the morning feed

Hi, my DD started waking up hungry at night about 3 weeks ago. I started feeding her around 10.30-11pm so she wouldn't wake up in the night and sleeps through again. It seems to work so far but the problem is she won't take full feed in the morning anymore. She wakes up around 7-7.30, not hungry, so I feed her at 8-8.30. She used to take about 6-7oz (she's bottlefed) but now only 2-3oz. Hour later has some breakfast (usually fruit as a finger food, so not much gets properly eaten, iykwim). Next bottle is around 12 and she has reduced this one as well, drinking only 3-4oz (that's why I don't give her more filling breakfast anymore). Next bottles are at 4pm and bedtime one at 7.30pm, no problems with them, has quite a lot. At 11pm she's very hungry, can have 8-9oz.
Oh, sorry about too long post but really don't know what to do. I don't mind feeding her at 11pm at all but now as it affects her morning and lunchtime feeds, I'm bit concerned. What should I do? Any advice would be great!

Hi there...try bringing forward the time very gradually of the late night feed...say 5 mins every 3 days or so...then when you reach 9.45pm stop altogether and see how she goes without. You may find as you bring the time forward that she'll wake earlier and then have breakfast better.

Another idea is to do away with the morning bottle as such and give weetabix with her milk on for breakfast at 7.30am and let het finish any milk afterwards if she wants. Then water only if thirsty til lunchtime and then her lunchtime bottle. Then perhaps a bit of tea followed by bottle at 4ish..then bedtime bottle at 7.45pm...a little later than usual

Mine at this age had stopped a lot of their morning bottles and had breakfast and dinner and then bottles at tea and bed with milk in a beaker the rest of the time.

If she is thriving and happy apart from this...you seem to be doing a great job so don't worry too much

xxK

Thank you mrspoppins, bringing the 11pm feed gradually earlier sounds good idea, will try that.
I think I worry too much about her getting enough milk as it's still her main food. She is happy (well, most of the times) and growing well.
