Hi, my LO wakes around 4am straining to pass wind and continues to do this until she finally has bowel movement. She cries and looks in so much pain. She has been on cow and gate infant since birth and when I explained what she was like yo my HV she suggested cow and gate comfort but she seems the same if not a little worse after being on it for two weeks. Has anyone had the same and had any luck with changing to a different brand formula or are they all much of the same? She's 3months on friday so hoping her digestive system Will improve and she'll grow out of it but I want to relieve her of the pain ASAP. She also has silent reflux so on ranitidine.

Any advice much appreciated?....

I haven't any experience of the comfort milk or swapping formulas but have you tried infacol for the wind? My dd suffered with it when she was tiny and it seemed to ease it. You can get it from pharmacies or even supermarkets. She was also on ranitidine and stopped both at around 5 months.

Thanks @annatha we bought it when she had colic and it didn't seem to do much but I didn't realise it could help with gas so I'll give it a go thank you-was there a best time to give it I.e before or after a feed as we're currently giving the ranitidine half hour before her feed. Her reflux was steady but the HV didn't increase the dosage when her weight increased so she's gone backwards a bit now but that's hopeful yours stopped at 5months as its been so upsetting seeing her in pain all the time.

I had huge trouble with Cow and Gate, it made my baby sick after every feed - awful!

Had a much better time with HIPP Organic. So I don't believe they're all much of a muchness.

Its awful seeing them in pain, I hope your little one grows out of it soon. Infacol worked well for us but I've heard of similar things working too, gripe water and dentinox I think? I would give it to her just before a feed, and I think it was 3 times a day? I might've got that mixed up with the ranitidine though. And with that I'd give your doctor a call, they can adjust ranitidine dosage over the phone if you give her weight in kg. We were advised by HV to wean dd early on account of her reflux so started at 5 months which might have played a part in it. I just gave her pureed veg once a day for a while as she wasn't too fussed but it might be worth thinking about when your dd is a bit older.

Great thanks @annatha that's really helpful. I'll give that a go to try and relieve the gas and come up with a plan with my HV.
Thanks @ hero1callylisg I'll take a look

My dd (almost 5 months now) has had this problem since birth. I switched from Aptamil first milk to Aptamil Comfort and did notice an improvement. We also use Dr Brown's bottles, which have helped. But the two things I've had the most success with are Gripe water and baby massage. I give Gripe water about 2 - 3 times a day. And I do baby massage on her every day in the evening before bedtime. Seems to really help her to pass the wind before bedtime which means she gets we all get a better night's sleep.
I've also heard that cranial osteopathy is good, but I don't have any experience of it myself.
Hope you find a solution soon, it is awful seeing them like that Flowers

Thanks @minimooo that's really helpful and reassuring that you've seen an improvement. My LO was inky 5lb 9 born and at 12weeks only weighing 8lb 12 so they're starting to get concerned about her weight now but I think all these things are a factor in her not wanting to eat as much. Thanks for your help anything is worth a try :)

I would try and release the wind before bed. Isn't he evening try laying her down and cycling her legs gently to relieve any pressure

Ah I didn't know you could put gripe water in the bottle, that would make it so much easier!

I use dentinox colic drops - you can put it in the feed and it really works for my DC- pops off in her sleep all the time haha! Grin before this she had the same problem and it was awful seeing her in pain.

The best bit about dentinox is it goes in the milk so you don't have to wrestle it in their mouth with a syringe!

Baby massage is also good, we've just started a course and i did it with the older DC too, well worth looking at imo. Good luck OP, I hope your little one gets some relief soon.
