My right breast is very sore and lumpy. Been b/feeding for 21wks without problem. Tried massaging it while DS fed, but no joy. Any ideas?

Sounds like you might have a blocked milk duct which can sometimes lead to mastisis (can't spell it!). I've had this a couple of times and it is v. painfull. Keep feeding and/or expressing from the boob. Having a hot shower and directing the jet on the boob also helps. Take some paracetemol if you feel you might be getting a temperature and infection can cause this. Mine has always cleared within a day or so but I know some ladies who have developed mastisis(???help) and it not a pleasant experience. Hope you feel better soon.

does sound like a blocked duct... i used to get this a lot with ds1.... if it is you need to unblock it... try massaging it with firm downward strokes from lump to nipple... you will know when you've unblocked it as milk will spurt outwith some force... doing it in the bath or shower will be less painful and easier

Shall try massaging it later in the bath. Bloody hurts!

I've had this a few times. I found a combination of really massaging it hard together with breastfeeding in a particular position - lie your baby down on a bed or sofa and kind of hover over DS like you're doing a press up so your breast is dangling down vertically. It feels and looks very weird but if you keep doing it and keep massaging it then I promise it will work. It's horrible but don't give up - it will go.

Massaging it in the bath made no difference

Have taken some ibuprofen, so pain better. Will try different position KathrynMc

try using warm flannels on it, and as someone said massaging from the lump towards the nipple with your knuckles is useful

Hope it feels better soon

I have had success with putting one of those warm microwave wheatie things on my breast whilst expressing (would be feeding in your case). Plus constant massage and emptying the breast as often as possible.

Do you know what has caused it? I found I got blocked ducts when I wore a certain bra, or a certain top, or if I went too long between expressing. It's so painful isn't it? Hope you get it cleared soon.

Sorry for you. I know how painful this is. Lots of info on blocked ducts here

Ouch! I had that too.
Using a wide tooth plastic comb to massage the whole area from body to nipple worked. Also use different bf positions occassionally

yup, for me it was wearing a feeding bra in bed that did it..... is v v painful but you need to massage it until it unblocks (bit like squeezing a horrible spot iykwim, apologies for yukky analogy....) or else perhaps seek medical advice in case it is something completely different??

DS managed to massage it out for me, bless him. He suddenly starting kneading the lump when i was feeding (which was agony) and when he was done it was gone! Thank god
