Ds has literally just this morning been Diagnosed with a Milk Allergy & Reflux & came out of hospital two hours ago had been in for 48 hours .

From birth he has taken 1oz every hour despite me trying everything fo get him to take more , the hospital have managed to get him up to taking 4oz every 3 hours which was brilliant and he is a lot happier on the new milk he has been put on which is Cow & Gate Pepti Junior .

My problem is he has refused his last two feeds he has maybe taken two oz in total since his last feed at 11.15am , despite this they were happy for him to come home .

They told me to persevere with the feed training and to try and get him up to 6oz 5 times a day but how on earth can I do that when he won't take more than an oz from me ?
Am I doing something wrong ?
I have tried several thousand different bottles/teats and have tried him without the Gaviscon but he won't take more than an oz if I'm lucky but will happily guzzle 4oz for the Nurses Confused

I'm in hospital with an underfed baby, she seems to think we are trying to poison her.

The only tip I have is we are putting a finger under her chin and sort of mimicking the sucking action, that seems to remind her how to start. I don't know if that's any help?

He isn't under fed though , just likes to really space out his feeds

So have you just been diagnosed and put in the cmpa milk?

My dd was diagnosed and i reckon it took about 6 weeks for her to start taking more. I used to think that perhaps my dd would start drinking then get the reflux symptoms from the allergy then it would be too painful to continue.

I will say dd was breastfed so some of that would have been getting rid of the milk proteins from my milk as well as from her body but I do think it takes time to clear and heal no matter what milk.

He has been put on the Cow & Gate Pepti Junior which is already helping enormously, he seems to snack dure in the day and take bigger feeds in the evening as today he took 8oz within the space of one hour .
Hopefully when the Ranitidine and the milk have had chance to help him recover from the damage the milk has caused he will start taking bigger feeds Smile

My son is now 12 weeks and has always struggled with reflux, i started dreading giving him a bottle because he got so distressed, it was a few weeks before we could see a difference, you have to give time for the throat to heal properly, you aren't doing anything wrong, my son has only in the last few days started taking 6oz bottles and that is only on occasion.
when he his taking bottles more comfortably try pushing him an extra 10mins to wait for his bottle a day, then 10 the next, by the end of the week he should be used to the gradual changes and will naturally take more because of it, worked with mine.
Good luck.

Thanks , The hospital managed to get him to take 4oz every 3 hours but he just won't do it for me at all .
He is still taking most of his feeds in the evening and having around 4oz in total through the day
