My little one is 6 weeks, for the first week bf didn't go well so I expressed and cup fed I then went to the mlu for advice, successful feeding wasn't established so was suggested to try shields. From there on she feed with shields until last week when I decided to see if she could manage it and she has ?. is it possible to do it wrong and not hurt?

I think (and I'm not an expert) that if you were doing it wrong then you'd be in some pain. If baby has lots of wet nappies and is contented and putting weight on then you must be doing ok. Let your dc feed for as long as they want on one side before offering the other. Keep offering until they really don't want any more. Slu ds like you're doing great.

Why do you think you're doing it wrong? Sounds like you're doing great if I've read correctly and you're feeding without the shields and no pain? Even using shields is fine. Main things to look for to tell if baby is getting enough are plenty of wet and dirty nappies. Have a look at kellymom website it's really useful for advice Smile but it sounds like you're doing well.

Thanks x. Wet and dirty nappys for sure. I was just thinking that you don't hear of many people not having problems or pain so I doubted myself, or have nipples of steel!!

I sometimes think she has a shallow latch and some nipple feeding seems to happen, hence nipples of steel. But she is content and nappies are good

Do you have a breastfeeding support group locally? There is normally someone there who can check latch etc. or your local branch of la leche league? My dd had shallow latch due to tongue tie that was undiagnosed for 8 weeks. They were surprised I wasn't in agony Smile but her feeding is more effective since the tt release. However I've had to get the lansinoh back out...!
