My girl is 8month old and formula fed. She has 4/5 7 oz bottles a day but dosent really drink much. shes also weaned onto three meals a day! Should i stop offering a bottle she currently has them when she wakes, sometimes at breakfast, lunch, dinner and bed and sometimes in the night!

I'm following this for interest as i am really struggling to get my 8 month old to drink any milk. (i say milk but he has a cows milk protein allergy so it's a hypoallergenic formula).

He drinks around 18-25oz per day. usually 4/5oz in the morning 4/5 in the afternoon, 7oz at bedtime and 7oz night feed. i make all the bottles up to 7oz but ge rarely takes that much at once. He's on 98th percentile and us around 24lbs.

Yes i make them all at 7oz too but shes just not interested in them now really except her first one and bed one but i dont think thats enough. The others she will have a oz or two of.

Do you give the formula before the three meals a day?

That sounds like quite a lot along with 3 meals a day to me. I think at that age DD was having one when she woke up, one after her afternoon nap, one at bedtime and one in the night and she was having more than most of my friends babies the same age!

A minimum of 20oz is recommended from 6 months to 1year. If they are taking less for some feeds then make up a smaller feed for that particular bottle. You don't need to make up the same amount for every feed.

Also milk in foods and other dairy count towards their intake too.

Thats what im thinking but i dont know whats the 'right amount' i think ill def drop the breakfast one for now and possible combine the lunch and dinner one into a before nap one. That will be one when she wakes one before nap one before bed and one in the night if she wakes for it which is very rare.

My 8mo has just gone from 5 7oz bottles a day to 4 7oz bottles. He is not that interested in food though and doesn't eat much by the way of solid food- still on 2 meals a day. 91st percentile.

Last time we saw a HV she said he was on too much milk and would eat more food if I let him get hungry. I'm ignoring her, on the grounds that that is crap advice!

Yes i thought milk was more important than food until 1!
If she drank them i wouldnt cut but she dosent so seems a waste think ill drop to 3 8 0z add one again if she seems hungry. food wise today for example she has had porridge made with her milk, homemade soup, and beans on toast plus cucumber sticks to chew on! She has always been slightly underweight even tho she eats all this. But i ignore them with it now she eats plenty, never stops moving and is just dainty.

Wow, your 8 month olds are drinking a lot more than mine! DD has recently switched to formula though has been mix fed since 6 months. We are BLW and she has recently really taken to solids. So much so, that she is hardly drinking any milk. Some days I struggle to get to 12oz in 24 hours. We have reinstated a dream feed as I was so concerned about it, though I should probably relax a bit as she eats a lot of cheese and yoghurt (the only thing she has from a spoon). So I really wouldn't worry as it sounds like your LO is actually getting loads. It just seems like such a big shift from when they're 100% milk, doesn't it? Smile

thanks x

dicko1 - haven't you posted about having triplets several times?

Regarding milk - dementedpixie gives the recommendation. A fully weaned baby should be having at least a pint (20oz) of milk per day.

My DD (7+ months) has an 8oz bottle with breakfast. 8oz bottle just before her lunchtime nap (which is about 90 minutes after her dinner) and 8oz bottle at bedtime. She doesn't always finish them. In addition she will sometimes have an 8oz nightfeed, but not always.

My hv told me last week that 20 ounces a day is enough for dd. Shes 23lbs and has 3 meals a day plus snacks. Nothing pureed just normal foods. She is on cow and gate pepti for allergies

She still has around 5 bottles a day but 2 of these are oat milk.

My 6 month old isn’t interested in breastfeeding anymore. He loves food and has 3 meals a day but only 3 breastfeeds in 24 hours. Had anyone else experienced this? Should I give a formula top up?

Thank you!
