Infant feeding

Do I still need to wake new(ish) born?

My DD is 4 weeks old. She is EBF and I express and breastfeed. She normally feeds 8 X a day. She's gaining weight albeit quite slowly as had a tongue tie which wasn't diagnosed for 10 days. She was 7lb3oz at birth.

She's now started following the 'routine' which she's got herself into...is this ok? Or do I need to wake her still?

8-9am - feed
11.30-12.30 - feed
2.30 - EBF bottle (110ml)
5pm - feed and usually top up of Expressed milk
7.30-feed
Then a it of cluster feeding in the evening sometimes (every day different)
10.30/11pm - 110ml expressed bottle
5am - feed

So she sleeps from approx 11.30-5am straight. I know I shouldn't be complaining...DD1 used to wake every two hours but is this ok now at 4wks? I woke her every 3-4hrs until 2 weeks and then she's just started doing this longer sleep at night so I'm not sure?

if she's gaining weight ok then don't wake a sleeping baby.

If she is healthy, dont wake her!

My DC1 woke every 3 hours well into his first year, so when I had Dc2, who was sleeping 10 hour stretches by 7 weeks, I was also fretting that I should wake her. But honestly - if she is gaining weight and well, let her sleep! And be happy :-)

I used to wake during the day for feeds, but not at night.

Yes I do wake her during the day(if needed) but very pleased to hear I don't need to bother at night! Last night I could hear her making noises at 5am so I fully woke her to feed but tonight I might just see how long she goes...the thing is my boobs actually hurt they're so full so for a while may have to wake her earlier than she might otherwise sleep.

This is so different to my first, hope she stays this way Smile

Why don't you dream feed her instead of waking her completely at 5am? Might give you some more sleep!
