Infant feeding

problems feeding a 10 week old

Looking for some advice for my 10 week old.
About 5 days ago she started waking up in the night for an extra night-time feed. She's now starting to refuse the bottle as well as breast (was advised by doctor to do formula top-ups when dd was 5 weeks old as she was seriously not gaining weight).
We've tried going back to breast only which was a horrid 3 days for all of us and now she's gone from taking 4oz at a feed to just 2.
I've also tried changing her formula to the one for hungrier baby but nothing seems to work. At present I'm feeding her every 2 - 3 hrs or so from 4am to midnight just to get 24oz's`in her.
She's also crying alot more and sucking her fist. I know she's not starving but I do think she's still hungry - does anyone have any ideas?
She's fine otherwise, no temp, right colour, sleeping etc.
Help!

So she seems to be hungry but will only take a tiny amount of food? If you make her wait 3 1/2 hours does she take a bit more? Is she very windy? Maybe her tummy hurts so she stops taking the milk only to feel hungry later? Friends who have used the hungry baby milk say it seems to make tummy ache worse so maybe it's best to steer clear of that for a while? How was your birth? I ask as I'm a big fan of the cranial osteopath after my son's ventouse birth. WE had a lot of crying and feeding troubles and it really helped.

Hi Poppynboo,
I would't give her the milk for hungrier babies as it's quantity she needs. Perhaps the hole in the teat is too small and she's getting tired sucking or she has gas in her tummy and you could try an anticolic preperation before feeds also try not to let her cry for long before a feed as she will take in air. you could also try heating her milk slightly(not in the microwave).
Good Luck!

Thanks for the responses. In the end I contacted the Cow and Gate helpline and they were very helpful too.
Thankfully its all settled down now and she slept her longest night ever last night and she taking more from me than she has in ages - hurrah!
thanks again
