Hello,

Am getting in a tis.

4 day old ds born Monday afternoon. Very fast labour 1 hour. 9lb 2 oz. 3rd baby.

Yesterday he fed non stop from 12pm until 2.30 this morning. He stopped for 1 hour 5 till 6pm.

Ended up using a dummy at 2.30 am.

Woke at 5 small 10 min feed. Woke 6.30 small feed.

Half hour feed 8.30 ish. Asleep now.

2 poos in the night. Previous night two nights about 10 poos.

Changed nappy at 8.30 this morning one wee in it and weed on me.

Does this all sound right?

He is a bit jaundiced, but midwife saw yesterday and said just keep an eye on him.

This is my third baby. This bit does not get any easier for me. I literally cannot stop crying.

Could I get him weighed today?

We are due to go to hospital post natal tomorrow for check, but I would rather midwife came to house. Can I ask this?

Xxx

This all sounds normal - 100 per cent normal. Inc your crying....but if this does not stop, seek help.

Fine to ask for him to be weighed. A weight at four days is a normal thing.

Call and ask the midwife to come to you instead - of course you can ask this.

Congratulations on your lovely new baby!

Where I am the community midwife came to the house for the first 10 days, so I would say yes, ask for a visit.

The feeding/pooing all sounds ok to me but at 4 days old everything is still so new isn't it. He'll settle into a routine.

I think I cried every day at that stage with mine, but do keep an eye out for any signs of PND.

I'm not much help really but didn't want your post to go unanswered.

The clue is where you said the baby was 4 days old. My children are adult now but one thing I can't forget is how much I cried when they were 3 or 4 days old.

Congratulations on your lovely baby. If you don't feel up to going back to the hospital for a check up then ask your midwife to come out to the house.

In my opinion they let women out of hospital far too early - much better to have nurses around while you are struggling.

Hi, I gave birth on Monday afternoon as well. I am also going to the hospital tomorrow for the 5 day check. I was told I had to go to the hospital with it been a weekend, but you can at least ask.
This is my first and also finding feeding hard. We ended up giving dd a bottle on the first night we were home as she would not settle or feed properly and I hadn't slept much for a couple of days. It helped a lot as she was hungry, I know you aren't meant to use formula so soon but helped so much. Hope it gets a bit better for you, I never thought it would be so hard Athens first days.

That's meant to say hard the first days!

Sounds very normal. I wish I'd been properly warned about the crying. I cried every day from day 3 when my milk came in to day 20. About anything, how much I loved my baby one minute, how much I wanted him to stop crying the next, adverts on tv, we ran out of crisps at one point which led to unbelievable tears.....
I never thought that the first few days/weeks would be so hard but they do pass and it gets much better.
In our area we had to go to the mw for the day 5 weighing and heels prick but I'd ask if you can have a home visit instead.

Nicky, did you ever cry because you were crying? That was my lowest point!

Midwife came. V helpful.

Last night I was looking up cluster feeding and was confused when they were saying "could last up to 4 hours".

He is more settled today. He was just making sure my milk came in. It is definitely in now.

Midwife stayed and watched whole feed and had long chat. He's done two more poos this evening.

Thanks for being so lovely and reassuring. X

Imperial Yes! Several times. I also cried because it was raining and my baby hadn't been out without a rain cover on in his whole life.

OP, that sounds like a gem of a mw. Sometimes a long chat really helps. You're still very much in the eye of the storm so be kind to yourselfFlowers.
