Quick question about making up formula

Can someone please explain the hot water shot method of making up a bottle? When you put a bit of hot, then top up with cold? A la perfect prep machine.

What sort of ratio would you use? And can the cold water be straight from the tap (DS is 6 months so drinks water straight from the tap now)? And how long do you need to leave the hot water to cool for?

This is all new to me, he's only had a couple of bottles of pre made stuff up to now.

Thanks.

We use cooled boiled water. We use a glass stopper-top bottle from ikea and fill it up at night so it's cold by morning. Currently dd (3 months) is on 8oz bottles so we do 2.5/3 of boiling hot water from kettle and top up to 8 with the cooled stuff.
Perfect heat.
Hope this helps!

I did water from the tap post six months, as you said that is what they were drinking out of a cup so I thought no harm. I usually made it up with four ounces of near boiling water and then four from the tap.

I do half and half - 3oz of boiling water, 6 scoops of powder, shake, then another 3oz of cold tap water.

See my hv told me when giving water should be cooled boiled water at 6 months- did think this seemed ridiculous! If I could use straight from tap would be way easier!
