Hi

Just wondered if any can help? My first baby is due in March I want to bottle feed but not sure which formula is best! Would love to know what other mum think?

I think they are all probably pretty much the same (content wise). We tried the big brands (sma, cow and gate, aptamil) and settled on cow and gate for dc1 and aptamil for dc2. If they feel windy or uncomfortable it might be worth trying another brand. Good luck!

Sonia, formula is manufactured according to a legal formula (ha!) which stipulates the contents fairly precisely. That's why there is very little actual difference between the mainstream products of all the brands. You might as well go for the design on the tin you like best, or the brand regularly on sale in your corner shop for emergencies.

Specialist formulas, for babies with particular problems, are different, but you'd be best getting advice from your HV if you want to try any of them.

It's illegal for formula manufacturers to make claims about their product as being best or closest to breastmilk. You can get more info here:

I think they are basically the same. So best thing is see what your local store stocks, or which come in individual cartons if that's of interest
