Infant feeding

8 week old barely eats in the evening; am I putting him to bed hungry?

DS1 is 8 wks old and ebf. Thrived since birth (never dropped weight) and generally feeds and sleeps well. He has been fussy in the evenings for a while now although this has improved in the last week with it starting at 7.30pm rather than 6pm. He is bathed at 7pm, fed about 7.30pm and then bed. He literally switches from a cooing happy baby to a crying mess at 7.30 and the last feed is always a bit fraught. Normally he feeds around 5pm but today his feeding pattern was such that he fed at 3.15 and so he's gone down having hardly fed since then. He was straight to sleep though with his dummy and on a normal night he'll sleep 8pm to 1am, then until about 4.30am. Is his behaviour normal? He must be hungry when he goes to bed? I've tried a dream feed but he's out for the count when I go to bed and I can't get him to feed.

If he's gaining weight well and not asking for more milk then I really wouldn't worry personally. If he was hungry I'm sure he would let you know! x

If he was hungry he'd eat. If he's not asking for it he's not hungry. Babies are unpredictable creatures and like to change their patterns. Just go with the flow - feed when hungry, let him sleep when tired.
I would say maybe move bath earlier. DD would get fussy in evenings, moved bath from 7 to 6 and generally much better.

If he's asleep he's not hungry.
He must be getting enough over the 12 hrs to keep him going.
Babies do go through periods of needing more and less food.
