THis is a problem my friend is having - honest. She has a 4 1/2 week old son and she says he has such a strong suck that she often has to bite down on her hand while feeding him. She has a three year old boy who she fed easily. She thinks it may be that her boobs are quite big and the LO can't get enough boob in his mouth so he is just yanking in the nipple. Does anybody have a similar experience/advice?

if she thinks he isn't latching on properly then it's worth her while going to see a breastfeeding counsellor so that they can check and give her some tips on making it a bit more comfotable

Just because you've breastfed before doesn't mean the latch is OK. She may be trying to feed him like she did her first who was older when she stopped feeding. A newborn often needs a lot more help positioning than a bigger baby. She should see a BFC - there's probably one at her local hospital.
