Infant feeding

sudden bottle refuser

Dd is 7 months. Has been breastfed so far but has always had the odd bottle of expressed milk, always taken it no problem. This week she has suddenly started refusing the bottle which is a nightmare as I have started doing kit days in work. She refused to feed all day when I was work and won't take a bottle from us either.

We are trying to start mix feeding her too, and due to cmpa we thought it was the flavour of the milk. However last night, in desperation I poured some milk in to a doidy cup. She happily, but messily drank from it, so I poured some in to a no spill cup and she drank quite a bit of it but not like when she has a bf or like when she used to take bottles.

We think it may be because she wants to feed herself so are going to get handles for her bottles today.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm in work again next week and worrying about leaving her.

Oh yes, DS did this as I went back to work at 5.5 months. Had taken the odd one fine till then, as soon as we had to rely on them: No.

We tried different types of bottles, the cm fed him milk from a cup or spoon, eventually the Breastflow bottles we're accepted.

Bear in mind that with you around she can refuse the bottle.
When you're not available she's more likely to accept this. It's a learning curve for her to realise nutrition can come from sources other than you.

Oh, that's good to know. Hopefully by the time I go back to work properly she will be happy with them.

My 8mo ds is the same. Only now when I'm going back to work does he suddenly get fussy with bottles.
But as he will drink from a free flow cup there's nothing wrong with forgoing bottles altogether.
If you're giving formula perhaps the solution is to just make up more than you need and let her messily slurp through it.
