Unsure - help needed!

I've got 2 questions that I can't seem to find the answer for. Can any mumsnetters help?

1. How long does an empty bottle stay sterilised for if you assemble it and pop the lid on? We are cold water sterilising with milton.

2. If you are making bottles up with part boiling water and part cooled boiled water, does the boiling water need to come from a full kettle? I'm sure I read somewhere that the kettle needs to be full but that seems like such a waste if I'm only using 2oz to sterilise the powder!

Thanks wink

On the second point, you should use once boiled water, so you can put less in the kettle, just only boil it once.

1) I usually say its fine for 24 hours if hygiene in home is good. Many countries don't sterilize at all so sometimes think we are too picky.

2) I usually have a flask of freshly boiled water most last above 70 degree for up to 12 hours and then it saves boiling kettle all the time.

If you put the sterile bottle in the fridge it's fine for 24 hours. You can also just leave it in the Milton until needed? When out and about I keep bottles in those bottle bags.

It says to use a litre of water to boil, as they know that a litre of water will be between 70-80 degrees centigrade when cooled for up to 30 minutes.

If you have a thermometer you could boil less water...we had one for hubby's milk for his coffee, so used it for LO's bottles.
