Infant feeding

<sigh> Think the breastfeeding is definitely all over

After posting about it in my 70 million other threads, my 11mo dd has not fed for 2 weeks and 1 day, and I am none the wiser as to why. She has recently started clamouring when she sees my boob (if I offer her milk) and puts my nipple in her mouth, but that's it. As though she doesn't remember she has to suck.
Thought I was ok with this but my friend came round yesterday and was feeding her baby and I felt so gutted that I am not feeding dd any more. I really wish there was some way I could get her back on to it. I have tried all previous suggestions.
Thanks to everyone who posted advice on my other threads (when I was MrsAnthonyKiedis) and especially to FrannyandZooey for finding me great kellymom links, and spidermama for her help via email.
If anyone else has any words of wisdom, please feel free! Am going to continue offering until she is 1- total of 6 weeks from her first refusing- and then accept defeat.

oh I'm sorry MrsKiedis. I was hoping it wouldn't go this way with you.
As I'd said on the other thread my dd2 also weaned herself as a result of a nursing strike - I know how gutting it feels.

Thanks geekgrrl

Just thought I would let those who read and replied to my other threads know how it's going (or not)

I would say that the fact she is asking for and taking the nipple now (even if not sucking) is a good sign. I am willing to bet that she will be nursing again by your six week deadline especially if you keep offering and make it as stress free as you can.

If however I am wrong and she doesn't start again, you have done really fantastically well to get to 1 year old and although I know it doesn't help when you are upset about it you really will have done all you can to make sure she continues.

Good luck - it really doesn't sound as if it is over yet.

Oh lazycow, thanks so much for that. What a lovely helpful post. It has given me much hope! I thought the same tbh, about it being a good sign. Will carry on....

TLB, so sorry to hear that your BF might have ended. I do hope DD has a change of heart but if not you have still done a fantastic job. You go girl .

I think it sounds hopeful that she's happy to assume the position, so to speak

But yes, you've done brilliantly well to bfeed this far - don't be sad that it's finished if it has, just happy that it was.

Thanks hunker. I know I need to get over it. I never expected to get this far, and my aim was for her to self wean. If this is what this is, and not as I suspect a nursing strike. Would have liked to get to a year though, and even to mmr.

Maybe someone could nominate me for that slapping thread?!

Oh, sweetheart - I didn't mean to sound abrupt - I definitely wasn't telling you to get over it.

It is sad - it's the end of an era. But it was a good era (although it may still be a nursing strike and she may go back to it, of course) x x x x

Thanks hunker, I didnt think you meant that at all, but I know I will need to move on and accept it at some point (esp as well meaning rl people keep suggesting that)

flamesparrow thanks for the hugs. Am pretty chuffed you said that (didn't realise MrsAK was me) as it suggests someone knows who I am!

Wanted to ask tiktok about this whole palaver, but think she is away. Off to try and express now...

hi honey sorry that you are going through this. my dd went off breastmilk at 9 months, it was as though there were far more interesting things to do than lie at mummy's breast thank you very much. and i guess there tastes change as they get loder and experience new foods.
hope you can keep her going a bit longer but if she's not having any of it feel assured that you have done a fab job. i was sad when my dd gave up and a small part of me was sad for me because i felt i wouldnt feel that closeness again but of course you do. and even now that shes 2.4 when shes sleepy she likes to rest her head in my cleavage so i dont think shes ever forgotten that closeness. good luck sweetie.

maybe i'll see you in ikea again sometime.

My dd1 did the same thing at just over 10 months. All she wanted was to snuggle up, not eat! But when she did stop from me she wouldn't have a bottle either and went straight to a feeding cup (which at least meant i didn't have to later remove bottle too!). She is 5 now and sometimes when she is asleep sucking her thum you can still see her tongue lapping on the thum as she did when she was feeding, so i know she has some recollection!
Well done for getting this far.
