Mastitis?? Help

Wednesday night, baby went 8 hours between feeding on right breast. (usually goes 3 hours between feedings and doesn't always take both so 6 is the max it's been before). Woke up in the morning with a very painful boob and couldn't move properly as my muscles ached so much. Severely bad headache was present too. Googling seemed to suggest mastitis. Am still horrendously achy now, so much so I am struggling to lift baby. Temp is 38.5! Body can't decide if it's hot or cold and keep shivering cold one min and then sweating the next. Had to change my shirt twice in the night was sweating so much.

Have tried hot compress, showers, bath, pumping etc but still feel shit. Thankfully hubby is home to help. Was planning on riding it out but just rang doc as I'm not getting better but they have no appointments.

Any helpful suggestions to get over this welcome. Does this sound like mastitis or is there anything else it could be?

Ooh that sounds very painful. Mastitis is an infection and I suppose it could have quickly come on. Is your breast hot to the touch or have a patch of red?

Ibuprophen will be your friend - it will help if you are inflamed and will also give you some good pain relief (and drop your temperature down)

If it is mastatis make sure you look after yourself, try and ignore the housework etc for today!

Is your boob swollen/lumpy? You posted a couple of hours ago, how are you feeling now?

mastitis needs antibiotics - as fast as poss to get fast relief - get emerg doctor apt, when feeding a baby it is an emerg - call 111
it gets better fast

Breast is hot yes I very inflamed. Taken ibuprofen 3 times starting late last night but not done anything for it. Now have doc appointment for later on today. If this is mastitis- how am I suppose to stop is recurring when baby starts to go longer at night properly rather that just a one off?

Mastitis is caused when breast milk leaks out into the surrounding breast tissue and your body sees it as a foreign body - the infection is you trying to fight it.

Your baby has basically "missed" a feed, which is why you were over full, your breasts will adapt to not needing to supply milk if baby is asleep at that time.

Are you lumpy and bumpy? Do you think milk is stuck there?

Doc gave me antibiotics. There is now a red mark and obvious lump which I think was hidden before add it was so inflamed. Temp has dropped so feeling a little better. Why does breastfeeding cause so much pain?
