My DS is one month old today, and ebf. This has been going well on the whole and he's gained 3lbs(!) since birth. I'm struggling to work out what's happening in the evenings though. Sometime between 6-8 pm, DS becomes really distressed at the beginning of a feed. He'll latch on, but very quickly pull off the breast and scream - I'm not sure if it's pain, or frustration, iyswim, but he's really upset. He's continuing to give feeding cues between screams, but latching him back on just results in the same thing with both of us getting more and more upset. If DH walks him around a bit,he'll settle briefly, and I had some success rubbing his tummy in a circular motion. He sometimes burps/farts quite a bit during this time, but am not sure if the distress is simply wind as the same level of burping/farting happens at other times of day without the same crying jag, if that makes sense! He is quite windy generally. Also, tonight he'd just woken up from a nap when it happened, so am confused about when the wind could have accumulated! Eventually he will settle and then have his feed, maybe after an hour or so (although it has been longer). Later on - he does one green poo in his nappy (normally mustardy seedy yellow)!
Have looked at Kellymom but am still struggling to know how to interpret what's happening - I really want to as hate seeing DS so upset and worry that I'm aggravating the situation somehow. Could it be wind? Colic? Am wondering about slow/fast let down as other possibilities, poor evening supply, or something I've eaten earlier on making my milk taste funny? It seems to be the breast and first few mouthfuls that trigger the crying...
TIA
