Is it OK for 19.5 month old DS to still have his milk in a bottle?

He won;t drink it from anything else. We have tried giving it to him in various cups etc, but he's not interested. He will happily guzzle water from a spouted cup, but not milk. DP and my mother think he's far too old for a bottle, but I don;t really car either way, as long as he drinks his milk. DP thinks it will become an issue when our baby is born in Sept, but I don't think he will be all that bothered by it tbh, especially given the fact I am planning to bf (DP is a dozy bugger sometimes)

Do you think my mum and DP are right? Or can I just leave things as they are?

I am firmly in the school of pick your battles parenting!

I would say that as long as he does not have the bottle glued into his mouth and he only has it for his mlk drink then there is not much point arguing.

dd3 who is 2 has a bottle for her last drink at night and I don't see any reason to change it!

thanks SM. I personally couldn't give a monkey's about it, he only has 2 drinks a day out of it (first thing am, last thing pm) and he drinks 1/2 pt of milk in about 2 secs and then pushes the teat back into the bottle and gives it to me to wash up, so I wouldn't say he has any major attachment to it!!!!!!!!!!

My 3 and 2 yr old have milk in a bottle morning and night.Dont see any point in stopping it! They use cups for other drinks and are not attached to the bottle. They just like milk out of it.

hi
same as my ds (2 in aug) and he wont have milk in anything else and it has to be warm as well! water in a sippy cup but not milk no way!
im leaving him to it though - its first thing and last thing of an evening and a 30 second gulp down so im not to worried!

I started by widening the hole in the teat and pushing a straw through (also meant no spillages, because I can't bear spilt milk!)
It wasn't long before we moved to other cups with a straw, and then just other cups.

Course it's all right
my ds1 still had night time milk in a bottle till he was nearly 4

Don't see what all the fuss is about tbh, won't be any kind of issue, why would it. Give you DP a box round the ears and tell your mother to button it.

My DS is 22 months and still has a bottle of cows milk to go to bed with i dont see a problem he can drink from a cup but its easier for him to lay down in bed with a bottle so im leaving him to it for a while yet.

Cheers everyone.

I'm going with suzy's suggestion to box DP round the ears. Like I need any encouragement!!!!!
