Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts? i've not mentioned it to my h/v as we've not seen her for 2 weeks, and he was fine then - althou she did say to try baby rice/forula (the rice is a definate no go as he screamed after every feed for about 5 mins for 3 days so def no giving him that again)

last night was another bad night this has been going on for a week now. am getting really knackered/down about it. yesterday he fed during the day at:

7.30 10.30 1 4 (think it was around then/3.30) 6 8 10 then woke at 12 2 (fed/brought in with me) 4 5.30 (taken back to his room) 6 nanna came and took him downstairs for me.

I've noticed this stems back to last week, prior to this episode, DH was up with him for 4 nights so I could get some good sleep in, he was waking once at around 2/3am then going till 6am/6.30 so was good. (from 8/9pm feed) anyhow during those 4 days DH gave him 2 EBM each had 5 oz in and 2 8 oz bottles of formula as i've ran out of EBM. the next night was when the every hour started then night after every 2 hours. tonight i'm going to try him with 1 bottle of formula to see how we get on, it's not possible surely thou for him to be allergic to my milk after so long? or for it to only occur late afternoon/for bed. perhaps I should stop feeding him every 2 hours? he went form 2.30 feed to 7am this mornign before grizzaling for a feed so i'm sure he's getting enough and when he does suckle it;'s for comfort - can u over feed a BF baby?

he also sometimes crys when i'm winding him/when he lays down on the pillow, but will then suckle away bobbing on/off.

any thoughts?

alos, - he's fine for a feed till he goes on the pillow for a feed then crys etc suckles for a while then comes off crying (this is normally late afternoon/during the night)(thought he was just distracted/gettin my boob to work for him as he will have a good suckle once he's got it flowing so to speak) is sick at random times (incl after a feed and sometimes an hour or so after) althou not projectile (I thought it was a bit of wind ) doesn't particually like being laid on his back after a feed, sometimes crys during winding. but on the other hand he'll feed well some times (esp in the AM) isn't sick, and doesn't mind being laid on his tummy after a feed. we've had a week now of him being up every 2 hours (at best)

he did have a bit of cloic as well for the first 11 weeks or so, then started to bring up the wind on his own (which he sometimes still does, althou he's also farting a lot more! lol) DH thought it was down to the baby rice.

Hi Munz

My brain isn't functioning very well this morning, but it sounds like the formula might be causing some cow's milk protein intolerance which triggers reflux too. Can you cut out the formula for a few days and see what happens? I noticed it would usually take at least 3 days before we saw an improvements in dd.

Also, baby rice is a big NO NO with dd, she gets gas and tummy ache which appears in the evening/night after eating it in the morning and she is 8mnths already. Is he having any other solids?

DD has silent reflux and is CMPI.

Here is a link on reflux

thanks hon, no other solids - I tried the porrige which he was ok with - well he's decided he doens't like it, so I was going to hold off again until he's a bit older as he's only 5 months.

he's BF and has only had the formlua those 2 times with DH. he seemed to settle better after having the formula/a bottle at least - can he be allergic to my milk after all this time?

Sorry, Munz, I can't see that this pattern is all that unusual....it's been really hot at night, and maybe he is just thirsty when he wakes and in need of comfort. He's only 5 months so too young, really, for solids. It's a phase that is demanding and tiring while it lasts, and it's good you have support and extra pairs of arms for him.

No, he won't be allergic to your milk.

What do you feel about co-sleeping?

I am wary of 'pathologising' behaviour and feeding that is actually normal - that's what's happening a lot these days with 'reflux', which does exist (don't get me wrong) but which is often suggested when a magic wand to change a baby's behaviour is not to be found (IMHO).

Hang on in there

I agree with what tiktok said, stick to BM and hold off on the solids. He could be unsettled by the weather/teething and therefore feeding more often. He won't be allergic/intolerant to your BM itself.

IMO you can overfeed a BF baby by not giving them enough time to digest the previous feed which will give them heartburn/indigestion. DS was like that. We would feed, get heartburn/reflux, scream then feed again for comfort and the cycle would start again. He did a lot better once we stopped demand feeding and gradually moved on to a 3 hourly routine. Of course, there are various opinions on BF methods, but this is what I experienced with DS. DD is a completely different matter.

Good luck, hopefully he will settle once the weather get cooler.

thanks girls, CADs - u actually followed my trail of thought after trying the bottle tonight, i've fed him every 3 hours tonihgt and don't plan on doing the cluster feed i'd normally do at 4,6,8 unless he wants them, instead i'll just stick with my 3 hours and see how he goes. I did wonder if that's what was going on - ie he was feeding to sooth iycwim, I guess all I can do is try it and see what happens? I want to try and feed till 6 months and then i'll be happier in stopping after that.
