Infant feeding

Stopping breastfeeding and mood changes

Hi
My dd is 12 months and I recently stopped breastfeeding due to bad bites. I have loved bf and was upset to stop but she bit so bad on a few occasions that it became impossible. My last bf experience wasn't pleasant and I feel it's such a sad way to end such a lovely experience.

I have since felt weepy and very emotional. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I'm also due back in work part time in a months time which I am dreading. The longest I've left dd is a couple of hours. We have a couple of settling in sessions booked in with nursery but I'm dreading it. We have no family nearby so it has to be nursery but I hate the idea of strangers Jo don't love her changing her nappy and feeding her. They don't love her and she just loves hugs and kisses.

To add to this, both my parents died recently. My mum died suddenly and unexpectedly when dd was only 3 months old and I'm obviously still grieving badly. I think that bf was a comfort to me as much as dd and this ending is just another sign that things are changing and moving on.

Can anyone advise? Sorry for the rambling message!

Hi beachcombergirl I am so sorry for your recent losses, what an awful time you have had of it.

I am slowly giving up bf my DS (7 months) and without all the other things you are going through, I have felt weepy despite it being my decision to stop. I cried at the breastfeeding support group I go to & the peer supporter told me the hormonal changes when you give up can make your body think your baby has died (hence not bf anymore) & to just been kind to yourself & proud of all the time you have breastfed.

I had a "surge" of hormones when I stopped bfeeding, I think that in itself can make you feel weepy. Add in the other things you are dealing with and it is no wonder you are feeling how you are.

My hormones did settle after a week or so though so should feel very different by the time you go back to work.
