Tips on Infant Gaviscon?

As a relative new user, I could do with some tips on using Infant Gaviscon!

I was going to ring the manufacturer, but just wondering if I can get answers sooner than tuesday!.

Ok, so, how the fuck do you get it in the bottles without spilling it everywhere? It's a right faff. We use NUK bottles. They aren't the widest neck, but the best ones for my baby.

Can you put it in if you make the bottles up for the day? At the moment we put it in at each feed, but having done it with a wriggly, crying baby on knee when out, I would much rather have it pre made up.

If you can put it in, can you then heat the bottle? Again, we put it in after the feed is warmed.

Also, if your baby does not have 8oz bottles, how do you ensure they get the correct dose? We are making 8oz bottles, when he feeds 5oz (so I would usually make 6oz for him). So he only gets part of the dose if feeding 5oz, or we piss around making 6oz bottles and putting 1 sachet with half of another in? I dunno. What the frig do others do?

• Cut a corner off the pouch and it should just pour out.
  

• I added it to bottles I was making up for the day - couldn't be arsed fannying around with scissors and a hungry baby.
  

• I don't heat my LO's bottles, but I think it would be ok to.
  

• When my little one was having 6oz bottles, I just used one sachet.
  

It made my baby VERY constipated though, be warned. I remember holding him over the toilet while he literally screamed a poo out. We only used it for about 3 weeks, before I decided being covered in sick was better than a baby who couldn't poo.

He's been using it for over 2 weeks, poos are formed, but okay!

He definitely needs the full dose, if I use 1 sachet he vomits as if we hadn't bothered to use one at all!

We cut the pouch, tried cutting at various angles, but it still all ends up on the bloody worktop! Drives me nuts! Have thought about getting one of my old avent bottles out, and putting it in there, then tipping that in to the NUK bottle! Seems such a fucking faff though!!

I used to cut the top straight off and make a V and pour it in. I'm guessing the Nuk bottles aren't as wide, I used Avent (with variflow teats as the Gaviscon is in essence a thickener).

I found if I added it in advance it coagulated in the bottle so added it after heating and mix by swirling not shaking as less air gets into the milk. I used to guesstimate the dose, I can't remember the dosing but always had half and quarter sachets lying around.

DTs also became very constipated. Infacol sorted that.

They were on ranitidine and domperidone too, until 11 months. Afraid it was a complete faff!

My advice would be to go back to the GP after a week and ask for Ranitidine. We found it far more effective as a medicine and far less faff.

We have the full array here. Ranitidine, domperidone, omeperazole! The gaviscon is the only thing to stop the vomiting. The others just stop the pain, and acid rising.

Have been pleasantly surprised that the Gaviscon works well for us. We need to use it in every feed. One missed dose = 2 days of endless vomiting otherwise.

We started on the others before the Gaviscon! I bought it OTC first, then got it prescribed as it was working.

That's good. It just made DD constipated although sorted out the vomiting. We also tried C&C Reflux for Babies formula as an alternative to Gaviscon.

He's also on lactose free formula. Poor baby!!

Poo is formed, but he gets it out with one little red face and a strain or two! Giving cooled boiled water helps :)

He initially had sma staydown but after 2 weeks it disagreed with him badly. Ended up taking him to A&E with near enough refusal to feed. The LF he took to straight away, and has been much better for him.
