Soya formula what's the best (nicest tasting) one?

Hi

I'm weaning my 15wk old ds off the breast & onto bottles as I need to start taking meds that do not allow me to b/f.

I started him off on Aptamil but he came out in some red spots which may be a milk allergy, so whilst I'm waiting for a referral to the paediatrician I'm giving him SMA soya formula - it is rank!!! And I wondered if anyone cd recommend a better tasting soya formula.

He's only taking between 2-4oz at each feed (max of 15oz a day) this has been a week now. We took him to the Drs today to check he wasn't dehydrated - he's not. Also he's only done 3 poos in the last wk - 2 were today and they hv the consistency of peanut butter so much thicker than normal. Dr said switching from b/f to ff can cause constipation so we are monitoring.

Don't know as I've only used Sma soy briefly in hospital and ebf now. But afterwards I saw goat formula, perhaps try that? I ageew the sma is nasty tasting!

Please do not give soy formula until medically advised to do so. If you think he has a milk allergy, you need to speak to your GP whilst waiting for a paed referral. Goats milk certainly should not be given.

The short answer to your initial question is that no formula tastes nice. And soy formulas are unfortunately the worst of the bunch!

Totally agree with sirboob. Soy formula is not recommended as a sole milk or before six months. Babies with milk allergies are often allergic to soy as the proteins are similar. My DS is allergic to both.

Your GP can prescribe a special formula for you to give if your having problems.

I was advised by my GP to give my ds soya formula & he's been on it for a wk now but in that time has had conjunctivitis, constipation, a cold & a slight skin reaction.

I'm waiting for an appt w a paed but in the meantime hv decided to go back to ebf so need to increase my milk supply. I will delay starting my meds that mean I can't b/f until I get a dx for my ds. He's 6 months in 10 wks time so will be starting him on solids then.

Okay, lots of skin to skin, express every few hours in between feeds as well to up your supply. If you can, have a 'babymoon' - litterally, stay in bed with little one doing skin to skin for a few days, or as much of the day as you can.

Also, I don't know what medication you need to start, but a lot of the time there are breast feeding safe alternatives. Not always, but frequently :) Might be worth calling someone like the Breastfeeding Network Drugs Line. Thinking more of making sure you're not suffering whilst you continue to breastfeed here, by the way, not putting pressure on you to continue.

As someone else said, soya formula is not recommended for boys before 6 months as it mimics oestrogen.

But to answer your original question, dd1 had Infasoy (might be Cow & Gate?) from 12 months and loved it, although it smelt quite unpleasant to me!

My son is on Infasoy and is 13 months, he likes it, went from aptamil normal milk which is really sweet to cow and gate Infasoy no problems
