Does the pill affect milk supply?

I'm thinking about going back on the pill and my GP has recommended Micronor which is a progesterone only pill (mini-pill). I've read that in some women who are breastfeeding, milk supply might be affected and I wondered whether anyone had any experience of this?
I'm also worried about the pill affecting the content of my milk - I don't want my dd to be getting anything she shouldn't!
I'm breastfeeding exclusively and my baby is 10 weeks old.
TIA

The combined pill is proven to affect breat milk quantity so I really wouldn't use that until you have stopped. The progestogen only pill tends not affect breat milk supply which is the better option and is what is normally used by breast feeding mums until they stop and want to go back onto the combined pill again. It is likely that there will be a very small amount of the pill constituents going in to the breast milk, however the amount is extremely small and should not affect the baby in any way - many many people use this method and have no problems.

However if you decided not to use a hormonal method of contraception, you could still consider the IUD (coil) or diaphragm.

The mini pill is fine to take while BF and won't affect your supply. the combined pill does affect supply so should not be taken when BF.V small amounts of progesterone will pass into your milk but will not affect your baby. If you are exclusively BF with no supplementary feeding though and feeding at least 3-4 hourly night and day , have had no bleeding since your initial lochia and baby is less than 6 months old then your will have around 94% protection against pregancy anyway ( this is higher in some women!_) HTH

I found mini-pill had no rffrct on breasteeding but did send my libido down to new lows.

Things improved once I stopped taking it.

I am on micronor; bf still fine but my libido is very low and was wondering if this could be why..

or is it laziness on my part - just wanting some sleep instead? DS2 is 15mths so will prob stop bf soonish.

i took the mini-pill, altho in my case it offered 100% contraception b/c i had NO libido whilst on it. also had painful, cystic, boil-type acne on my chest and back that left scars, and 3 periods in one month.

progesten-based contraception just isn't for me.

give a bash and see how you get on.
