Dd cried whenever she needed a fart/poo, and I think it was just that she was so young she didn't know what else to do. When all they can do is cry or not cry, crying is their only way to express that they are not entirely ok iykwim. one day she learnt to grunt and from then on she did that instead.

we had this too - at 3m DD (EBF till 6m) would writhe in agony for a whole hour then finally poo and eventually calm down. often she would cry for hours or even all evening. nothing would help, no fennel tea no tiger-in-the-tree / Fliegersitz position, no rocking. one day we ran out of milk so i couldn't have my hot chocolate or cappuccino for a weekend - and the pain was gone!!! i switched to lactose free milk with a view to cutting out all dairy if needed - she was fine after that weekend to our absolute relief. DH is lactose intolerant so we should have guessed.

good luck and hope the pain fades fast. it is real agony watching the babe in pain in your arms and not be able to do anything, so glad it was over.

I sometimes found that laying DS on his tummy for a bit helped, tiger in tree position was quite good too.

I think this is pretty normal. We certainly had it with DS. Not so much now though (he is 4mo).

You could try the Tiger in the Tree hold position (google it, also there's a demo video on YouTube somewhere). Seemed to ease DS. It's supposed to be good for colic/wind.

Maybe it's something in your diet? Try cutting out dairy for a few days and see if that has any effect.

I am sorry to say I think it's a phase they all have to go thru - awful - my dd was bad like this fm same age for a good 3 wks - made much better by my going onto soya milk, it's just a difficult phase. Hang in there.

Mine too, only poos once a week and her excessive wind smells foul! Marking my place to see what others say. Only difference is my little one is 7 weeks and gets 2oz formula after bedtime bf.

Sorry - she is exclusively breast fed

My poor six week old baby is very pained by farts and poo -- she cries and struggles and then does lots of them and then feels better. Does anyone else have this? Is she ok? Do you have any tips on stopping it or making it less painful for her? Thanks
