Oh thanks for the new thread mrsn..
News of the night here. I have bursitis Xmas Sad Apparently of the type that is prevalent either in athletes... Or fat middle-aged women! Hmm, I wonder which category I fall into? Xmas Hmm
(though in my own defence the last time I had it was after climbing a mountain! And now can't climb stairs)

Thread 5! Wow, we are a chatty bunch Smile

susieShock Shock Shock to your car experience...I hope you find a decent hire car and enjoy that wine! And a big Angry to the insurance nobbers.

Thanks all for asking about babyfunch.

Doc was pretty helpful - diagnosed colic and reflux as causes of nighttime screaming and not sleeping so we are to tilt her cot, use infacol/gripe water and keep her upright for as much of the time as possible. I am to try cutting down on yoghurt, white choc (hardly ever eat it anyway), white cheeses and milk, in case it is dairy related.

Re today's poorliness he says it is probably a reaction to her jabs. I also remembered after we left the surgery that I had hot curry for the first time last night so could well be that - sil warned me about curry causing my bf niece to scream next day but I forgot!

so babyfunch is now asleep on an inclined mattress and I am trying to think what to do without latte in my life Shock (i drink a couple of milky coffees a day.) She seems to be on the mend so may well just be the curry! I feel very relieved to hear that she does have colic and reflux so the nighttime stuff isn't just in my head - she really is in pain. just hope the remedies actually work. He said as she is gaining weight he doesn't want to try gaviscon straight off, which I agree with, though may ask for it if things don't improve by 12 weeks or so.

Good luck for better nights everyone.

Funchum am confused as to why you weren't given gaviscon as its to help with the burning pain of reflux rather than to stop them being sick, my sil is a pharmacist and recommended it for my ds and gp agreed, it helped him, although he then moved on to ranitidine which was even better.

Goat - OUCH! Not good, hope you can recover quickly...

Are we still allowed to talk about food? Xmas Smile

Report
funchum8am · 03/12/2012 22:18

pearly doc was concerned as gaviscon can cause constipation which could be just as painful as the acid reflux, and since there is no weight gain issue he was reluctant. apparently it works by thickening the stomach contents which means it is harder for baby to continue, Er, processing them, shall we say. If I could get my hands on some ranitidine I would as I have heard good things. I will be back to ask for one or the other if no improvement in a few weeks though.

Marking my spot!

susie you poor thing. Glad you're all ok though. I backed into someone when pregnant and after the initial shock and tears it was just a pain in the bum, so enjoy that wine!

goat I've never heard of that ailment, can we have a description?!

mini I hope we can still talk food! I've just had apple and blackberry crumble made by mum and some m&s custard. Mmmm

funch pleased you've got a diagnosis and can take some action to relieve things.

ds has been asleep in his cot since 8:15 after feeding for an hour! It's one of the best stints he has done in there so I'm hopeful the snuffles I can hear won't escalate!

Where have you got bursitis Goat? I had it all through pregnancy in both hips, I even got steroid injections for it. But after I had J they gave me anti-inflammatories due to having a section and they seem to have sorted the bursitis as well.

J has given me a thorough mauling on one nipple. I had to put a cool pack on it after feeding. He's in the other side now so FC he'll settle and give us a few hours before the next feed.

Thank you for the new thread MrsN!

susie that's horrible about the car incident Xmas Sad I hope your bruising recovers quickly.

Mini sorry MP has been unsettled again, fingers crossed he has a better night tonight.

Goat I don't know what burstitis is, but it sounds nasty. Stuntnun you had it during pregnancy? Ouch!

Just incase you were wondering where I was Xmas Grin don't worry, I haven't graduated!!! DS has been generally managing about 4 hours between feeds at night, but last night slept from 9:30 to 4:30 I think, which is a big improvement for him. But of course I stupidly went to bed late and didn't see the full benefit. I think we are coming out of this latest unsettled period (I reckon it lasted about 6 weeks this time). Wonder how long until the next one? Xmas Confused

On the food front, DH just gave me a big piece of disgustingly bad-for-you chocolate fudge cake - I now feel proper ill. Should have gone with my original pudding plan of a couple of chocolate hobnobs...

DS almost went splat on the floor when we were changing after swimming this morning - I caught him with his head literally 1 inch from the tiled floor Xmas Shock. Total heart in mouth moment.

Hope there are better nights all round tonight

Well that's new! Just done first feed - not too bad, 11.30ish- put her down cue wriggling and eye rubbing, impending transfer failure BUT I sneaked out of the room, mainly because I needed the loo, and tired gurgling began. Annoyed that I had not switched Ewan on, I edited outside her room fully expecting crying and demanding a feed but no, I sneaked back in and turned Ewan on and lo and behold gurgling stopped and she has self-settled!! Same as last night when I ws asleep in the chair ShockShock Just need to see how long she stays asleep for. Not hopeful for a very long stint but impressed at this new development.

funch great that you now have a diagnosis, now you can do something concrete. Hope things are on the mend!

stuntnun OW, bursitis in the hips sounds dire. I have it in the left knee. It's an inflammation of the bits that make it so that tissue does not rub together when moving. DH is doing bottle duty, trundling Down to the kitchen and bringing nosh back while I await sitting up in bed in regal splendour.

Foodwise DH went and did a grocery shop last thing and brought back Green & Black espresso chocolate. Dammit, I have no willpower, and I need to lose three stone... Preferably before visiting NZ next summer!

Susie I could be addicted to mint aero easily. It's lavly! I ate too much dairy milk tonight.

Goat I told myself I wouldn't worry about my weight til weaning but I am bigger than I've ever been but am hungry all the time Blush

Hello Pearly and nice to see you Smich. Even if when any of us do eventually graduate, I hope people still pop in from time to time.

Oh gosh, eyes have started stinging. Will do some more later as I am bound to be back before morning.

Thanks for sparkly bee thread, MrsN.

Thanks for new thread mrsn Xmas Smile

Oh gosh susie how scary I'm so glad you're all ok and you definitely deserved that glass of wine.

funch good that you got baby funch sorted at the docs, hope things improve now for you both.

goat that sounds painful can it be treated much?

Things have gone from bad to worse for us today, in short DD1 woke up straight after my last post early this morning and threw up everywhere. Then after I'd changed sheets & clothes went back to sleep until 10 when she woke up and did the same thing again. By the fifth time I was getting really worried so phoned NHS direct and told them she's been under the weather a bit with a cold and she'd had that fall on Saturday, they told me to take her straight to a&e so I rushed her there still throwing up and we then spent the next 7 hours on children's a&e being monitored and trying to get her to keep something down.

I was so lucky my sister was around and came with us so babylump was looked after and I could concentrate on DD1 as much as possible. Both girls were such stars they behaved so well but it was so horrible seeing DD1 that ill as she's such a bubbly little girl usually. They were going to put her on a cannula but luckily at the last minute she perked up a bit and the paediatrician allowed us home instead. She's not kept anything down since Sunday dinner time and has been sick another 4 times since we got home but is now tucked up in our bed with DH while babylump and I camp out downstairs. It's so difficult not being with her to cuddle bit I suppose that's the realities of life with children and I can't be everywhere at once. I know DH is perfectly capable but I still wish I could be up there too.

In short I feel crap again :(

Anyway, long post sorry. Hope all's well with everyone else now and there are long sleeps happening everywhere.

heff that sounds truly awful...poor dd1 and you and DH. I am over your way tomorrow morning, do you want some company or any errands done or things dropped round?? Much sympathySad Sad Sad

babyfunch has slept from 7.45 to 2 Shock Amazing! I have woken a couple of times to loud grunting but she never actually woke. just holding upright then going for transfer...if she stays down for a second decent stretch I will be over the moon! Can't get too excited until a few nights go the same way though, but just maybe this tilted cot has helped.

All the snacks sound lovely...I am finishing some banana and walnut cake a friend made us Wink

All this chocolate talk is making me crave mint aero debates waking DH
