Cow's milk for 1yo preemie?

My DD was born at 35 weeks (only just - 4 hours earlier it would've been 34 weeks) with severe IUGR weighing 3lb 4oz.

She's now 9 months old and doing really well, even though she has remained steadfastly 6 weeks behind term babies in reaching developmental milestones. (For example, she is only just this week learning how to sit up independently for a couple of minutes.)

I will be returning to work a couple of weeks before her 1st birthday and I'm wondering what to do about milk. She is EBF and we are doing baby led weaning so she still relies on milk for a lot of her calories.

Can I avoid expressing my milk and put her straight onto normal cow's milk during the day? I will still be breast feeding in the evenings.

Have posted same in Premature birth section.

Thanks in advance Smile

april I think you are probably best phoning a BFC, try the National Breastfeeding Helpline.

Lovely to hear that she is doing so well though Smile.

We did, with our 31 weeker... We checked with the health visitor and they couldn't see any problem, but advice changes over time, so I would check again.

DD was a bit smaller and a few weeks earlier and from my experience I think the health visitor will probably say it would be fine to move straight to cows milk. But yes, check in case advice / things have changed!
