I went to see the GP about my own health and she nodded towards my 2 year old daughter and said "are you still breastfeeding her?"
I said "Yes".
She shook her head and said "You shouldn't be breastfeedng her; children need lots of good foods". Then told me what she should be eating.
I explained that she eats plenty of nutritious foods.
Then I complained to the practice manager. I said I didn't wish to sound disrespectful but as an ABM Mother Supporter and trainee breastfeeding counsellor and a qualidied nutritionist and complementary therapist specializing in pregnancy, birth and children's health, I did not need or appreciate being given nutritional advice or being told that I shouldn't breastfeed and that breastfeeding her was not stopping her from eating good foods and that breast milk itself is a good food. My daughter was getting over an awful virus and breaastmilk contains antibodies to help her deal with that.
I said I was concerned that WHO recommend feeding for up to 2 years or beyond and she was saying that what I was doing was wrong.
The practice manager spoke to the GP and she said the GP was just concerned for my health in case it made me tired but thats not what the GP was saying
