Anyone using SMA Staydown formula? Tips welcomed!

I haven't been able to breastfeed much so am struggling with bottles. My daughter (2 months) has reflux and we have had to switch to SMA Staydown formula (reflux improving a little). The problem I've encountered is that the Avent teats seem to sometimes clog up no matter how carefully I clean them. The new formula is thicker so I've switched to #2 teat, but even these seem to clog up (resulting in both of us panicking when she can't get milk; also v. frustrating at night switching teats to find one that works). The #3 and variflo seem to be recommended for 3 month olds. I could use tips on how to unclog teats and/or deal with the Staydown formula. Any help welcomed!

i also had to use this with DS1 and had same problem - ended up changing to cheapy brown teats which had a bigger hole. His reflux did improve a lot but still had some until he was well established on solids at 6-7 months. Good luck!

I used to enlarge the hole in the teat with a heated needle . Unfortunately with DS2 the Staydown didn't "stay down" either. We went through a spell of uaing Wysoy, which is even more like mashed potato. DG used to cup feed it to him but it was messy.

That is so helpful -- thank you! I will try the Tommy Tippees. I had been wondering if I was going to have to start using Avent and throwing them away after one use! I have been tempted to try to unblock the avent with a needle, but haven't got my nerve up.

I phoned Avent about this and they were quite clueless about it which made me wonder if they know there is an issue with their teats this way that they have not resolved. The SMA helpline has been way better but that's been more on the mixing side.

I also have found that the only way to mix the formula so it works is as needed. Unfortunately the milk is colder now, poor thing. She seems ok with it.

We are finding (this is our sixth day on the new formula) that there is less coming back up but still have the hiccups and sore acid reflux. Also she is more constipated (though her poo is now yellow instead of tarry green).

If it's not one thing, it's another! Thank you again.

I'd go for the variable flow ones - we used them on dd with ebm and milk thickener but she was a bit older.
