3 month old - bottle feeding help

My son, had colic for the first 6 weeks of his life and feeding was a nightmare. A Switch to Omneo Comfort and Dr Browns bottles helped enormously and he has been a joy ever since. Still has quite a small appetite and eats 3 ozs every 3 hours but more near bedtime. Last couple of days he oesn't seem to be able to swallow more than 2 ozs and its like he's gagging on the bottle. Milk runs back out of his mouth and he cries. However if you put him in his chair he plays happily with smiles. He may also be teething as he is displaying all the 'classic' symtoms. Is the food issue related to the teething or is it something else? ANyone had any experience.

Not had exactly the same experience, but I do recall that my ds sometimes acted this way at this age. Children's appetites do vary (even babies') and it may well be that he's feeling uncomfy from the teething and just doesn't want a full tummy. Try letting him feed little and often for a few more days, don't push him to drink more than he seems to want, and see how it goes. If he's still pooing, weeing, and being his normal self, then it's probably just an appetite hiccup. You could also try winding him more often. Ds needed to be winded before, during and after feeds, and often between feeds too.

Thanks for your reply. The weird thing is that when the vacuum cleaner was switched on he took another ounce! We often used white noise to calm him when he was 'colicky' in the early days but don't understand why that would make a difference if he doesn't actually want to eat any more.

But if he's teething he could feel very grumpy, and the white noise might be quite soothing.
