Hi all
My DS of 5.5 months is producing a dirty nappy with every feed. He used to do this when he was newborn, but has been a once a day man for three months or so. The poo is greeny yellow and runnier than usual (sorry!)
I took him to see our GP, who didn't seem too worried. He said it could be teething, a reaction to the introduction of solids or a viral infection (anyone get the feeling that the latter is HCP code for 'I don't know'?!)
He isn't dehydrated and doesn't seem at all bothered bar a bit of nappy rash. He's a little bit snotty but nothing major. I cut out solids for a couple of days but it didn't make any difference.
Should I be worried? Does teething cause upset tummies? I've heard conflicting things.

DD2 recently had a week of doing this - she's 20 weeks old. She was pretty snotty & mucousy so I assumed it was the snot coming out - they swallow a lot of it down. As her nose has cleared up so have the nappies. I was changing every half an hour & some of them were like spinach! But yeah, back to normal now.

Thanks so much, that sounds familiar... especially the spinach bit! Hadn't even thought that it could be snot coming out (yuk!) Glad to hear DD2 is back to normal.

i really woudnt worry

pooing many times a day, right through to a couple of times a month and everything in between is normal for a BF baby.

our 4 month old ds is is pooing lots, and has some nappy rash, despite getting the sudocrem at every nappy change. he's also slavering lots, all of which i've been told by several people is likely due to the fact he's teething.

I really wouldn't worry, if you want you could always cut out the solids for a couple of days and see if that helps.
