Going to the gym while BFing - advice needed

I want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (and hopefully shape) before I go back to Australia for Christmas and I was thinking of joining a gym in the city that has child-minding. My ds is 7mths and I am bfing - but have dropped the lunch time feed.

Before I fell pregnant I went to the gym regularly and did cardio and weights and an occasional stretch class. Once I was pregnant I started doing Pilates. My Dr said I could keep up the exercise so long as I didn't push my heart rate over 140 (am 34yo), but I got contractions after the gym when I was 5mths and haven't been since.

All I've read so far is that if you exercise too hard right before feeding that the taste of the milk might be affected by the lactic acid.

Can anyone tell me what I can do at the gym without affecting my milk?

Also do you think playing 9 holes of golf would be OK?

PS: What happened to the sit-up club? I was planning to join when I get back from my holiday in a couple of weeks.

There has been a thread on this before - perhaps Demented could give an update?
here

I would do whatever exercise you wanted and continue to B/F as normal.

AussieSim, I went back to my exercise classes when my DS2 was seven weeks and as you can see from the thread Mears has provided a link to I had some concerns.

I am pleased to say that I have had no problem exercising and b/feeding. In the early days I needed extra support for the old boobs but I think all that had settled down by the time DS2 was 7 months so probably wouldn't be a problem for you either. Although my instructor warned about the possibility of lactic acid I have never experienced this, in fact my DS2 isn't even bothered if I have showered first (although I prefer to shower before I feed him, it depends how desperate he is). I am still feeding (DS 14 months) and exercising, usually three classes a week (although it has been anything up to seven), a mixture of BodyPump (weights), aerobics and I am trying BodyBalance (stretch class) just now. I am not sure about the contractions you had mind you and this may be worth mentioning to your Dr and your trainer/instructor.

You probably need to do a search for the sit-up club and bring it back to life, I know I need my wrists well slapped, I think Sgt Mjr Beetroot is on her hols and I don't think she is going to be too pleased with us!

PS My weight could be better but that's another story!

Thanks guys. I guess I have no excuse then. I will start slowly with the golf while on holidays for the next couple of weeks and hit the gym when I get back!
