I do think that you're right to stop him from having a bottle in the day, I've been told that 12months and the bottle should be removed during the day and at night. Imo far too young, ds still has his at night and for day time nap he is 18months but in December I'm going to throw them away with him so that Santa can know that he is a big boy and that he can now have big boy presents.

I don't know if it'll make him feel any better but that's just what's going to happen and when they're gone they're gone. I did the same thing with dd and just reminded her that we had to throw them away so that Santa would know she was a big girl, and add do you remember going to the bin and helping me put them all in?

Perhaps I'm cruel but she never had any real problems after we talked about the throwing away part.

Good luck and let me know how you get on, I don't think that it's ever easy to get rid of them.

My DD, who turned 12 mths on the 8th of Aug, has 2 milk feeds a day. They are both out of a 'bottle' but they don't have teats on them, we use the green 6m+ toddler spouts from Avent. We've had no problem with the change from teats to spouts and to be honest my DD didn't even seem to notice. I'm sure that I'm one of the lucky ones and that it really does depend on your child.

At the complete other end of the scale, my StepDS had a bottle until he was 5 ( a comfort thing). It must have been infuriating for DH as he was keen for SDS to give it up but DH's ex-wife used to just keep giving him the bottle for a quiet life (she has admitted this).

On the subject of 'I'm a baby...', I think this is a fairly common stage in toddler-hood. Kind of a final farewell to the baby years. Try not to worry too much about it.

Although we did have to try 4 different types of toddler spout/cup before we settled with the Avent.

I stopped using bottles with teats during the day from around 12 months, but neither of mine were big milk drinkers so it wasn't a big deal. They never had juice or water from bottles anyway (my big pet hate, sorry to anyone who does it). We used the soft Avent spouts in the bottles as a bridge to using cups for milk. They ate a lot of dairy stuff, and had lots of milk on their cereal, so I was never that concerned if they drank other stuff instead.

I think its got to be more difficult as they get older, they understand what they are losing! I had the same battles but with dummies, and it is hard. Its probably a bit late in the year now, but with ds2 I got rid of his dummy when we went on holiday, I told him it had got lost on the airplane. He was so distracted by being away that it worked. My BF suggested it after she tried the story on her dd.

Hope this is at least a bit useful, good luck!
