how much to should she be drinking?

my dd is nearly 7 weeks but was 4 weeks early so classed as 2-3 weeks deelopmentally. she is 9 pounds (born 6lb 3oz). the problem is that she won't drink more than 2 oz of formula when the apitimal tin says she sould be taking at least 4oz by now since she is 9lbs in weight. however not sure if the prematurity is the key here and not the weight?

is there some other reason why she is not drinking much? she is mix fed and when on the breast only wants to suck for about 10 minutes on average too! but the key thing is that i want to exclusively bottle feed soon but not until she is taking enough (well according to the chart on the tin)

anyone else had a child this age that drank similar amounts? any tips on how to increase what she takes...

my HV says she should have up to 5 oz so getting worried now.

oh i remember this so well i used to fight with dd to get her to take more than 1oz then in the space of a week she started taking 4. even now it says on the tin dd should be having 8oz a day but she only has 6. dont worry she will only drink what she wants an as long as shes gaining i wouldnt worry

maybe you need a faster teat - they can get tired and stop before they have had a full feed if the teat is too slow for them. Worth a try - you will need a faster one at some point in the future anyway.

when would you normally move to a faster teat?

i shouldn't worry about it! think about it... if you are bf you never know how much baby is having! and i think the guides on the side of the tin are silly... they just make people try and overfeed babies who just aren't hungry.
listen to her... she'll tell you when she is hungry!

my ds is 7 months and he has NEVER taken more than 7oz at a time, and that was not regularly!

Both my dd's have been small eaters.DD1 never drank a 7oz bottle in her life & DD2 is 17wks & she doesn't often drink more than 3.5oz.On the rare occasions she does, most of it comes back up again.

With dd1,I worried & tried different formulas/bottles/teats & nothing made any difference to the amount she'd take.My HV said that some babies just don't like milk & that her dd stopped drinking milk at 7 months.
