We have 50 copies of Sophie Tilley's wonderful picture book Amelie and Nanette: Sparkly Shoes and Picnic Parties.

You can't fail to be charmed by the wonderfully nostalgic and delightfully innocent world of Amelie and Nanette. Their lives are rich with adventure, sometimes good, sometimes bad (and sometimes a little sad) but always mixed with laughter. The book includes a beautiful stationary set - with both note paper and envelopes.

Apply for a free copy and come back and let us know what you think or post up a review of Amelie and Nanette.

This book giveaway is sponsored by Bloomsbury.

What a delightful book for little girls! My daughter, aged 7, is probably a little older than the intended audience, but she snuggled down and read it immediately. She loved the illustrations and the best friends theme, and asked immediately could we buy more Amelie and Nanette books. She was over the moon to find the little notelets at the back of the book and is currently writing letters on them with her sparkly gel pens to her own best friends. This book will be loved by girly girls who enjoy the Princess Evie and Princess Poppy type books. I teach a Y1 class and intend to take it in on Monday to share with the class. No doubt there will be plenty of people who hate this book because it's about girls loving pretty dresses and party shoes, so if that sort of thing offends you, then steer clear! But if, like me, you don't see anything wrong with girls wearing pink, then we would recommend it!

Thank you Mumsnet for our copy of the book. Sparkly Shoes and Picnic Parties is a beautifully illustrated book with a nostalgic, old-fashioned feel to it. Whilst it is an unashamedly girls book, focussing on appearance and 'pretty’ things it also shows the two best friends to be capable and adventurous. They make a picnic, climb fences and play in the grass and mud. They do worry a little about the state of their new dress and shoes, but their understanding mums just clean them up giving the positive message that it's okay for little girls to get dirty!

My 6 year old daughter thought it was "lovely". Her favourite moments were when the girls were getting the things ready for the picnic and the "big hug". She also loved the notelets at the back. She says she would happily read more Amelie and Nanette books. However, she also says she did not find the book as exciting as the Clarice Bean and Worst Witch books she is currently reading so I realise that the intended audience is a bit younger. Not to worry, we know a little girl who will love it!

DD is above average for reading for her age (8) but she still loves a beautifully illustrated 'picture' book, so when she saw this she pounced on it and avidly read it!

Yes I would agree that it would fit into the same category at the Princess Poppy books of which DD was (and still is) very fond!

She loved the little writing set at the back! An extra treat!

Thank you she enjoyed it and probably will look out for others to read in the same series....they make a delightful contribution to bedtime reading!

My daughter (5) loved this book - the story is nice, we liked the friendship theme, but the illustrations are what really makes this book special. My daughter was delighted to find the little notelets in the back of the book and has written one already. I imagine Amelie and Nanette books will feature high on her birthday wish list!

I was a winner of the book. Thought it was a lovely book, very nice story, it was an instant hit in my household. The illustrations are great, and what a lovely touch with the envelopes and paper at the back of the book.

Sparkly Shoes and Picnic Parties by Sophie Tilley landed on my doorstep today (well....the postman handed it to me) and I was a little excited that we would have a new book to read tonight.
We found it a bit too 'girly' for us (major tomboy alert!) but for girls that like to be girls it would be perfect.
Although the theme centred on the new shoes and dress weren't bang on target, the idea of a picnic has fired up the imagination and we are going to be writing invitations on the notelets tomorrow, inviting the family to a picnic in our local park!

I still haven't received my copy....

DD (3) loved the illustrations and enjoyed the picnic aspect of the story as that is one of her favourite role-plays. Whilst she likes having pretty things she already thinks that Mummy can make everything clean and nice again so didn't relate to the girls being upset about their shoe / dress being ruined and thought it was funny that the naughty dog was causing trouble.

The notelets are a nice bonus, although I've put ours aside until she is a bit older and can write her own notes.

Really excited when the postman delivered the book. What an utterly delightful book. DD loved it, and also the notelets at the back. Showed friends supporting one another, and what best friends do with their time. We'll be reading this one again and again. Beautifully illustrated, and a light hearted story, liked the fact that the girls went for a picnic which was simple but pleasurable.

Thank you for sending me a copy of this book. I had intended it for my niece if I was lucky enough to get one but my ds(5) has decided he wants it.

I really like the story and the focus on friendship and support. The scene where they were chasing the dog went down very well! The notelets and envelopes are a nice touch.

My dd age 4yrs loved this book. It has a lovely message about friendship. Loved the mischievous dog 'Pilou'. She stopped on the page with all the shoes and couldn't decide which one she liked! Lovely book and beautiful illustrations. Thanks.

Thank you for my copy. We enjoyed the read - it is easy to follow & engaging

Tabby33 Fri 18-Apr-14 06:45:32

Well this was a success. My 5 year old niece has read this many times in the last few days and shows it off to every person who enters her house. After reading the first time she asked 'can we have a picnic and I will wear one of my very pretty dresses? Oh but of course doodle (our dog) can not come!'
I think the illustrations are beautiful and the little note lets are an added bonus. I think she will find many excuses to throw a tea party or ask to go on a picnic now.
I particular like how understanding mum is at the end!
Thank you for the book.

MasterFlea Tue 06-May-14 05:30:42

Lovely book. My 4 year old especially likes the dog scene. The illustrations are beautiful. It has been read a good few times over the past few weeks and that means it is a hit for DD!

Thank you very much for the copy.
