Hello all

Tickets are selling out fast, so we thought it was time for a sticky thread dedicated to anything and everything BlogFest... This is the place for introductions, questions, excitedness, nerves, wardrobe crises and meetings-up.

Do grab an "I'm attending Blogfest" badge to let other bloggers know you'll be there.

Join StitchThis' blogalong here and send out live updates from BlogFest. <Gets out pukka pad>

JaxB has done a lovely linky over here - so scribble a quick intro post on your blog, zip over to hers, and add it in. Don't forget to upload a pic so that others can recognise you - as jax says, it's all a bit less nerve-wracking if you've got a mental image of who your fellow BlogFesters are going to be <considers updating Twitter profile to something which actually looks like me>.

You can also pop over to Facebook and join our event page.

We've got a lovely FAQ page over here, but if you're puzzled or uncertain about anything, let us know on this thread and we'll try to answer as quickly as we can.

Stitchthis Tue 02-Oct-12 14:53:55

I've added the blogalong details on my blog too. If you want to take part in the Chronicles of MNarnia please add your name. There'll be a dedicated page up later today too. grin

Oh I really want to come! Unfortunately I'm on my own with the kids throughout November thanks to my husband's job. I hope you all have an amazing fest! Maybe next time.

I hope you all have a great time at Blogfest and its a fabulous success ( so that you hold another one next year, after first consulting with me about the date!)
I would have loved to attend, but its Dd's birthday and apparently me jaunting off down to London isn't what she wants for her birthday, selfish child. wink
I'll look forward to everyone's blog posts instead.

Hey all, I've done a sort of intro here

pebbles77 Fri 05-Oct-12 23:08:30

I'm nervous and not sure
I only started blogging this week!!! - www.pressiesbypebbles.com
I'm really enjoying it and have set up twitter and fb accounts to try and increase my "fan base" (not sure if that's the right wording!! as well but feel like i'm jumping into the deep end
Do you think it'll be helpful for a total beginner like me?
Any comments really appreciated
Thanks
Pebbles

MmeLindor Sat 06-Oct-12 12:40:42

Hello Pebbles,
what a great start. I like your writing style, it is chatty and friendly. And the mixed topics.

pebbles77 Sat 06-Oct-12 14:23:22

Oh MmeLindor, that's just made my day, thank you so much
So do you think Blogfest would be helpful for a beginner or maybe wait a year?
I definitely like the look of the social media side cos that's what goes over my head at the moment?
Thanks so much

ZombTEE Sat 06-Oct-12 14:33:41

[Where's my pout emoticon]

MmeLindor Sat 06-Oct-12 14:37:07

Pebbles
I think it would be great for a beginner blogger - but you will have to think about if blogging is a long term thing for you, or something that you are just trying out.

If you feel you will stick with it, then you will get tons of info and motivation at the Blogfest.

MmeLindor Sat 06-Oct-12 14:37:38

Tee
<pout> with you. S'not fair.

ZombTEE Sat 06-Oct-12 14:43:28

I'm actually now going to be in London about a month later, but I can't afford both. The December trip is to meet with a client (and have a jolly with MN friends, I won't lie grin), so I can justify the expense.

I just can't justify that and BlogFest.

December will definitely lead to income. BlogFest could or could not!

MmeLindor Sat 06-Oct-12 18:18:47

That is understandable, Tee. This will be my third trip to London this year, and it all adds up. Thank God for EasyJet.

pebbles77 Sun 07-Oct-12 13:08:59

MmeLindor - it's my birthday today and my fab husband has just told me I can go...... so I bit the bullet and bought a ticket. So so so excited but a bit nervous about not knowing anyone but hopefully we'll all be in the same situation smile So excited. Thanks for the encouragement

I know a lovely snuggly new born will more than make up for missing out but still...

MmeLindor Mon 08-Oct-12 07:40:00

That is great, Pebbles. None of us actually 'know' each other - the only person I have met before is BIWI. Hope you had a happy birthday.

Petite
your snuggly baby will more than make up for missing the BF. As reasons for not attending, it is pretty much the best one I have heard so far. smile

elphiemcdork Tue 09-Oct-12 14:35:48

I'm really really hoping to go, but I'm not going to be able to afford to pay for a ticket yet and I think they will have sold out by the time I'm in a position to do so...maybe I can get a return from someone who is no longer able to go?

DillyTante

Hey all, I've done a sort of intro here

Ooh Dilly "My love for Mumsnet knows no bounds" <snogs>

borninastorm Wed 10-Oct-12 18:01:55

I've registered for BlogFest and it said we'd get asked which sessions we wanted to register for when we signed up but I wasn't asked this.

Will I get an email asking me or will I get asked on the day?

I've only been blogging for a wee while so I'm hoping to find out lots and lots on the day.

My blog is MumToTeens and I've put my Blogfest badge on there already.

I'm a little bit excited grin

pebbles77 Wed 10-Oct-12 20:34:00

I was just about to ask about the sessions as well.

Also I'm pretty sure I was asked my proper name but I wasn't asked my blog name - or maybe i should have put my blog name as my "name"???

I'm confusing myself now smile but any info would be great

I'm also getting very excited (but still a little nervous)

DillyTante Thu 11-Oct-12 20:43:46

It's true, I'm like a freaking Mumsnet evangelist. I'm recruiting! Pebbles said MmeLindor and I inspired her to blog, and one of my readers signed up for BlogFest because of me. You can send the cheque in the post.

ElenMumsnetBloggers (MNHQ) Fri 12-Oct-12 13:14:37

grin

Hi borninastorm,

If you've bought a ticket then we've already sent you a quick email with bits and bobs of information about BlogFest and how to stay in the loop.

We'll be sending you ANOTHER email to ask what breakout sessions you want to sign up for in the next week or so.

Because we're nice like that grin

Bex66 Fri 12-Oct-12 13:23:49

pebbles, I have just bitten the bullet too and bought a ticket even though DH didn't want me to go as he thinks conferences are a waste of time and money - mind you he does go to very boring legal conferences! But having got my second sponsorship deal through yesterday for the blog and having realised I can offset cost against my previous income for the year, have just signed up!! i'm just at the stage now with the blog where it has started to go commercial and I have loads of questions so hoping to meet up with some experienced bloggers who can answer them (and not so experienced bloggers for fun and a chat!!). My blog is How I Lost Weight

GetLippie Fri 12-Oct-12 13:39:51

Hello! I'm really looking forward to BlogFest, and really looking forward to meeting people as well! Hoping we get more information on sessions and so on soon.

pebbles77 Sat 13-Oct-12 13:55:02

oooo well done Bex66. So glad that sponsorship deals are coming through - how exciting. I have really high hopes of BlogFest and am really looking forward to it.

See you then

chillibite Wed 17-Oct-12 16:29:08

This blog fest programme seems to be getting better and better. I am so excited every time I look at it - I forget I actually don't have a blog yet.
I'm sure it's great for beginners - what have you got to lose? It sounds like a great day out, even if you've never heard about blogging.

Personally, I'm hoping it will make me take my finger out and actually start writing... as opposed to thinking up excuses for why people like me can't possibly ever start a blog...

DillyTante Wed 17-Oct-12 18:01:22

Right, seriously,what is everyone wearing:

Casual
Smart casual
Business casual
Business
Dressy
Cocktail
Wedding

Help! I've picked a necklace but so far that's all I'm wearing.

TheaJTS Wed 17-Oct-12 18:23:33

Hi all,
I'm brand new to Mumsnet and brand new to blogging (and very excited about both) and I just found out about the BlogFest TODAY... and it's SOLD OUT - sob!!!
So, does anyone have a ticket they want/need to sell???
If so I'd be a very, very grateful recipient.
Thanks so much,
Thea

BigBroomstickBIWI Wed 17-Oct-12 18:26:32

I've just written my fourth ever blog post
[proud]

I'm looking forward to the day very much, although am also terrified ... grin

BigBroomstickBIWI Wed 17-Oct-12 18:42:44

Now number 5

<on a roll>

pebbles77 Fri 19-Oct-12 11:42:33

Well DillyDante I haven't worked since having kids 5 years ago and am a good 4 stone heavier than then so it doesn't look like it'll be work smart and I suppose tracksuit bottoms are out as far too casual so I think jeans and smartish/baggy top of some sort smile

Luckily I've just found a blogger who lives down the road from me so we are going to go together so I'm feeling a little big more confident.

In all seriousness though if you are really nervous and would like a friendly face please please pm me your mobile and i'll pm back with mine and then we can arrange to meet a few minutes early so you have someone to go in with.

Really looking forward to it

BigBroomstick - what's your blog address?

BigBroomstickBIWI Fri 19-Oct-12 14:01:38

pebbles - I'm not in the Mumsnet Bloggers network, so I'm not sure I'm allowed to put my blog address here

DillyTante Fri 19-Oct-12 14:32:31

Thea have you seen this competition for a ticket?

MmeGuillotine Fri 19-Oct-12 15:14:10

Dilly, I think I'm wearing my beloved Viv of Holloway pirate dress and heels plus NEW HAIR COLOUR for a bit of confidence. ;)

chiarachiara Fri 19-Oct-12 18:24:10

Anyone in need of a ticket?
I've bought my ticket but unfortunately won't be able to attend the event.
Write me at machedavveroATgmail.com

DillyTante Fri 19-Oct-12 22:15:25

Sounds v cool MmeGuillotine. I shall be practically frumpy in comparison smile

Bless you pebbles for the offer. I'm feeling surprising cool about it really, partly because I feel at home with lots of you guys but also am lucky to have a companion in Stitch This. We are not actually going together but are local friends who discovered we both mumsnetted years ago, and both got into the blogging/crafting thing at the same time.

TheaJTS Sun 21-Oct-12 08:12:55

Thanks Dilly for the link. I'm in touch with Chiara who is selling her ticket, so fingers crossed :-)

(Now I just need to get my blog up and running blush)

choochy Fri 26-Oct-12 12:23:09

Really worried now as I don't know anyone and will feel like new girl at school walking in to BlogFest!! And no idea what to wear. Not been to London for ages and ages so will probably be looking like a right country bumpkin.....

choochy @ www.stumblinginflats.com

Stitchthis Sat 27-Oct-12 22:04:52

Hey I finally managed to get a linky sorted for the blog along! I think that's the best way of collecting everyone's contributions while making sure we all get increased traffic (I've set it as a blog hop too). The wherewithal is up on my blog - either in today's post or on the dedicated Blogfest page I have also set up.

If you want to join in please email, PM or post a comment letting me know which session you will blog about. The idea is to get real time blog posts covering each session so we build a composite picture of the day. It's either going to be magnificent or mouldy......gulp. If you're up for the former please let me know!!

I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone. No idea what to wear but then I never do smile

DillyTante Thu 01-Nov-12 21:45:15

Not long...! I've narrowed it down to two three outfits smile

pebbles77 Sat 03-Nov-12 18:14:31

Only a week away - very excited smile

DillyTante Sun 04-Nov-12 18:28:38

GetLippie Sun 04-Nov-12 21:35:34

MmeLindor Mon 05-Nov-12 14:52:50

I have just realised that the blogfest is next weekend. EEK.

BIWI Mon 05-Nov-12 16:29:18

Eek indeed! I'm just glad I know/will recognise some people there, otherwise I would be feeling very nervous.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Nov-12 16:40:48

Me too, BIWI. And kicking myself for not getting back to Bootcamp.

pebbles77 Tue 06-Nov-12 00:33:38

I have a question - so when I filled in my form I put my real life name - will we be given name badges and if so will we be able to put our mumsnet/blogging names on it - i.e. so we can really say hi to people we "know"???

Stitchthis Tue 06-Nov-12 07:00:48

Got my train ticket!

DillyTante Tue 06-Nov-12 21:24:50

Hey stitchthis. What time are we getting in, and are we still <ahem> you know...

Choochy, I'm a bumpkin too - do you think people will be able to tell?

If any Essex bloggers are travelling up on the fenchurch street line, do get in touch. Wibble. if you like, I mean.

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 07-Nov-12 11:17:20

Hi - if you're unable to attend BlogFest there is an opportunity to "hang out" with Caitlin Moran or Tanya Byron - more details here

Stitchthis Thu 08-Nov-12 22:01:28

Calling those of you who want to join in the Blogalong!!!!!!!!!!! Can you let me know please?! Thanks

borninastorm Fri 09-Nov-12 01:31:55

I haven't been on here in ages cos I've been in hospital very poorly with a pneumonia infection, I'm just starting to feel a bit better thanks to antibiotics. So I'm praying I'll be ok for Blogfest on sat.
I spent some of the boring time in hospital planning my outfit, so I need to be able to come. And I got business/blog cards made up, so I need to be able to come.
Mantra for tomorrow - must get better for blogfest, must get better for Blogfest.
Hoping to meet you all on Saturday. I'll be the one repeatedly and very annoyingly coughing in to a hanky in the very well thought out outfit!

MmeLindor Fri 09-Nov-12 07:53:52

Borninastorm
Hope you are feeling ok tomorrow. What a worry for you.

I'm packing.

Well, I'm sitting on a bed full of clean washing tweeting and MNetting but its almost packing.

grin

DillyTante Fri 09-Nov-12 09:19:40

Borninastorm - hope you are feeling well enough. Blog cards! Why didn't I think of that?

pebbles77 Fri 09-Nov-12 09:25:37

Borninastorm - I'm so sorry to hear you've been ill. Fingers and toes crossed that we get to meet tomorrow

BCBG Fri 09-Nov-12 12:58:38

Think I am going to have to duck out sad, haven't updated blog since october agasagas.wordpress.com as too busy trying to run a house full, complete my Creative writing MA, get the novel into shape and I have to be back in the sticks by 6pm which would mean leaving at 3'ish and missing the wonderful Caitlin Moran sad. Fed up tbh

BCBG Fri 09-Nov-12 13:05:17

Can't decide. sad Gah! What is wrong with me...

pebbles77 Fri 09-Nov-12 13:17:52

Even if you do have to leave by 3 I still think it'll be worth it as it starts at 9.30. You'll only sit the whole day tomorrow regretting it. Please come x

knackeredmutha Fri 09-Nov-12 13:35:12

Just planning tomorrow's early road trip, picking up two other bloggers on the way...whoop! Now, what to wear...

BCBG Fri 09-Nov-12 13:41:37

I am also excruciatingly shy which is not good for a MNer or a blogger, methinks smile

Does anyone else know no one else who is going? Will there be a corner for people like me?

I don't know anyone and I too am shy. Five hours, can I hide in the corner too?

Bcbg, where are you doing your MA? I did it at goldsmiths.
Come tomorrow and we can talk about it (stern)

pebbles77 Fri 09-Nov-12 14:15:26

I'm also very very nervous and feeling a little self conscious. I'm hoping and praying that once i've got Pebbles on my name badge people might come and say hello - I promise to say hello to everyone that's on their own and looking nervous smile

Hooray pebbles! I will see you there, nervously

borninastorm Fri 09-Nov-12 14:31:05

I'm coming to Blogfest!!!!
Been to the doc this morning and she says as the antibiotics are doing their job I can come along.
Woo hoo.
But I will apologise in advance for coughing all day.
Not sure what my badge will say either borninastorm (my mumsnet name) or mumtoteens (my blog name). Or will it say my real name?
If you see me ask me for a blog card - they have a lovely sweary pic on them just to make you all smile.

borninastorm Fri 09-Nov-12 14:33:05

PS I'm not nervous at all just pleased to be getting there.
And nervousness is really just a fear of the unknown, and if you think about it we're all taking a step into the unknown tomorrow, so we'll all be nervous it's just that some of us will hide it better than others.
And at least we're not on stage giving a talk - that's gotta be really nerve wracking!!!

BCBG Fri 09-Nov-12 15:19:49

Hi, Euphy....might sneak into the corner grin

BIWI Fri 09-Nov-12 17:07:52

I'm going to wear my MN meet up badge, so you can pick me out! It's big and round and pink, so if you spot it, please come and say hello. smile

I'm a real novice re blogging, so very much looking forward to it.

I don't 'know' anyone, but have talked on here and Twitter to a few people.

I'll be the one with 24-hole DM boots (if I can get them laced up in time at sparrow's fart tomorrow morning). And I may have some knitting...

Rosa78 Fri 09-Nov-12 18:09:56

Let me know asap! Thanks

MmeLindor Fri 09-Nov-12 19:35:56

Hope you can make it.

I'm in That London. wink

Going to have an early night. Am in an extremely orange hotel but its cheap and near to Blogfest venue.

I have some books from my publisher that you can win so make sure you are following me on twitter if you want to win one. Will do a competition during Blogfest and hand them out tomorrow.

I'm doing the Blogclinic in the afternoon so do come along and say hello. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

BIWI Fri 09-Nov-12 19:36:43

Will you have a chance to sneak away at any point for a drink, Mme?

Stitchthis Fri 09-Nov-12 20:25:49

Oh pls say yes, I've just shelled out for a taxi to the railway son so I can have a tipple .... Might need a drink as it looks like I might be doing the Blogalong (almost) alone...sob..sob..any volunteers? This could be magnificent <goes all dramatic>

Stitchthis Fri 09-Nov-12 20:26:13

BCBG Fri 09-Nov-12 20:54:40

Stitch I may come after all. I'll be in the corner with Fivehours and Euphy, so if I am I will find you so you can explain how I get my blog onto your linky thing and what on earth I am supposed to be talking about...

Stitchthis Fri 09-Nov-12 20:54:43

Here's the link to the Blogalong list......do I have to beg?!?! I can do....

Stitchthis Fri 09-Nov-12 20:57:49

Yay!!!! Write your blog post and then go onto the linky page via the link on the message I've just left here or here and scroll down to the bottom of the page. There's a link to the instructions. If I can do it ANYONE can!!!! Which bit do you want to do? We can tap tap tap together ?!??!

MmeLindor Fri 09-Nov-12 21:31:35
