If I Claim Housing Benefit Does My Housing Association Have To Know?

Hi,
I claimed housing benefit many years ago but luckily I have not needed it till now. You used to be able to opt in or out of telling your housing association or council that you are on benefit. Does anyone know if they have to be informed now.
I would really appreciate any ones experience of this
