Hi I am a new Blogger mommysnotes-yaffa.blogspot.com. I am trying to increase my readership and I keep reading about followings on Twitter and Facebook. Embarrassingly, I am not an internet savvy gal, but I am working on it. I was proud that I was able to start an FB account. Please don't laugh. I have posted my blog to my friends on FB but a bit uncomfortable with this. Is there other ways to go about this? Any suggestions? And again, Twitter?

Hi Jill2,

Welcome! I don't do Facebook but I do Twitter (I am @Shackleford_LB). Dive right in and join conversations that are local to you or are on topics which interest you. You will soon get followers.

Seek out @MmeLindor for her Twitter guide.

If you interact on Twitter, people will read your blog.

Good luck!

BW,
Lesley x.

Hi Jill,

Just go for it - I only started using Twitter a month ago and I'm slightly addicted really enjoying it.

Be brave, like Lesley says, and jump right in. I'm @FoodieV if you want to follow me!

I am definitely going to look for you and Lesley. I think it will be my Easter Holiday project (due to I am off work at that time).Thank you for the advice.

I have popped over to your lovely blog.
You should definitely go on Twitter and tell more people about it.

Hi
Thanks for the encouraging words. They are so absolutely needed. I have always loved writing but for the most part, kept it private. I really do want to develop this.

I did read your comment and it is the first comment by another blogger, so it was exciting to get. The last posting was my attempt at being more light-hearted, due to friends telling me that the other posts made them cry, yikes. I figure balance has to be good :).

Hello And Welcome To "The Twitter" :)

Although you have 140 characters, always try to write 126 characters or less, including the link to your blog. Why? Because then other people, like me, can re tweet your tweet without having to edit it. If I have to edit it to RT (Re Tweet) it, I most likely won't bother to, not least because I'm on my mobile and it can be a pain to do it.

Make sure you use something like tiny.cc or similar - a url shortener to get your blog into your tweet without using up valuable characters!

I'm @TheLizWeston (and have totally outed myself but ho hum...) but you may want to think about whether you twitter name/handle is something that you want people to be able to trace back to Mumsnet or your Real Life? Depend what you are writing and/or tweeting

Hope this is useful...

Oops sorry Jill, I should have put that on my post! //www.applepiewithwensleydale.wordpress.com

The other thing I would say is that you should use a site like bitly.com to shorten your links - otherwise all your posts will be taken up by your blog address.

Let us know what your Twitter handle is when you get going!

Here is my experience with twitter in case it helps..

There is a setting on Twitter that allows you to automatically follow back people that follow you so if you find 100 people to follow on Twitter you will usually get about 15 automatic followers which is a good way to start.

I don't do all that tweeting stuff but i do put my blog posts on my facebook page which then get automatically tweeted. I also set up tweeting from my pinterest and etsy account so a lot goes on twitter without me actually ever having to go on it.

If someone mentions me on twitter I get an email so I can log on to twitter and reply rather than ever having to check it.

By just doing these things I usually get 3 or 4 new followers each week (not much I know but good for not much effort). Feel free to follow me! @LittleRedFarm smile

The most important thing though (in my experience) is to have a 'tweet this' button on your blog posts so that a blog visitor can easily share your post with their followers.

This is really helpful information. Thank you so much. However, I might have to have a tutorial with my friend who is more techno savvy (for translational purposes). It's nice to write and share you work with others, but it is also lovely to talk to others who have similar interests.
